I have the #003 almost finished. Just need to touch up a couple tiny spots and sharpen it. I must admit that these things are a heck of a challenge.

edited to add: This one is sold. I am a full time maker and hope you guys dont think I am trying to sell something here. I need help and support from you all and just appreciate the comradery here in this forum. My pistol/knives take up most of my day but I thoughly enjoy these slip joints and look forward to making them better. T Bose and Kerry Hampton are to blame for this new found obsession.

That's a nice one.:thumbup::thumbup:

Nice, I really like the shape of the blade and the F/F on the handles look first rate.

Nice one, Bruce.:thumbup: Isn't it amazing how difficult such a simple device can be to make.

Great looking for only your 3rd, but your expertise is only showing. Keep it up.
Jim

How is your centering in the closed position? Mine improved 100% when I went to 1/8" pivot pins. I think that the 3/32" would bend a bit when peining between the liners and create problems. What countersink are you using for the pivot pins?....10 degree? I had problems with splitting jigged bone and elephant ivory scales at the pivot and even the 1/16' pins. My solution for jigged bone was to ream the scale material only about 10 thous larger and then pein. No splitting and you cannot tell when the pin is peined and spun. Now for the ivory scales...where spoinning or doming of pins doewn't happen..I still ream oversize by 7-8 thous and am very careful about peining and quit before I normally would with other mnaterials. The knife really does not want to come apart after peining the bolster or bolsters. I think you also need to keep the bottom pin about a 1/4" from the end of knife if not using a bottom bolster or cap. I do not have problems with mammoth ivory for some reason....softer I think or more forgiving. Well...this only took me three yrs to figure out!:D:D

JohnL,

We've gone over this in the past. Please post technical knife making questions in the appropriate forum and/or contact the maker directly.

This forum is not set up to be an extension of the "maker's" forums for Q & A. Those questions belong here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=741

Thanks for your cooperation.

Beautiful work (as always), Bruce. Glad to see you developing the itch to build more slipjoints.

Looks good, Bruce!

It is hard to belive these simple folders can be difficult. But they are, more so than any
type of folder I've made. Have done em all, except shootin knives :D

The shooting knives are a long process and I know that when I start but these little slip joints should only take a day or two right? Wrong! I've been 4 weeks now and only finished 3. I see why more people dont make em. :o
