My Thoughts on Case XX

I agree about Amber Bone, fine stuff. I agree about the shiny blades too, some are as ground brushed which is much nicer for use. However, it's not too much drag with fine paper to get a decent matte look yourself. Here, Humpback Stockman Orange Harvest Bone, nice medium Stockman, sunk-joints, cut out for spey and Spear master for a change

Yellow handled Case collecting was my introduction to an addiction that has lasted a lifetime. A couple of local knife peddlers would come in my dad's feed store when I was young and often just give me one or pay down their bill with one. So I had 15 or so patterns after a couple years. For the most part that was what I started CollectorKnives selling; along with an assortment of German slipjoints. Every brand and pattern has a price where it is a good value; and that is almost exclusively a personal opinion not a universal one. Same with Ford/Chevy owners and Black & Decker / Dewalt owners.

There is a very large market for older Case knives; and they have stayed very reasonable up until now - hopefully that continues.

Some thoughts on Case knives.
Case has a diverse catalog and are a good value in my book. It does seem that as GEC changed over the years, Case's popularity increased, at least with me. 🙂
Things I think Case could improve on; sometimes their pull and color are too light for my taste and I would prefer if none of their blades had rounded tips.
Overall I like Case products real well.

My first Case knife, cleaned a lot of squirrels with it. The shield fell out, don't know where and when. Been decades.

A bud of mine, his Dad gave him this Case Canoe in 1964. He had field dressed a deer with the thing the weekend before, and had not cleaned it! Yuck!

I love their large stockman's, and their candy apple red bone

You can buy a Case of any age, and the walk and talk is good. That is the exception in the knife industry, rather than the rule.

The Tony Bose era was an important period, and Case introduced some great new models by Tony Bose. I consider the Tribal Lock a real winner.

Case still offers carbon steel Chrome Vanadium knives. It used to be CV was the standard blade, and now few knife makers produce them. I get very upset with rust, so I am a stainless customer 99 % of the time. But, CV knives take a great edge, and are easy to sharpen.

I hope Case continues in business. As long as they put out outstanding knives, they will continue to get my future business.

and I would prefer if none of their blades had rounded tips.
I by a long shot own more Case knives than any other brand, but this bothers me the most. The tumble polish process is bad for pointy blades. More carbon steel and "as ground" blade options in a bigger variety of handle materials and its probably the only brand i would own. All in all though, the best buy to have a great knife handy in your pocket and not fret about losing it because it's irreplaceable. 20230628_193604_copy_3060x2295.jpgPic of Case knives currently in my carry rotation

I love Case, but don't like their shiny SS blades.
I love their carbon steel blades, and my favorite cover material from them is the Amber jigged bone.
Sadly they don't use enough of either, and I think the 032 frame is the only where they use both.
I think the only current Case offering which appeals to me at all is the large CV stockman in amber bone. I find most of their cover options garish, and I don’t want SS.

I wish they would just produce a few core patterns in smooth yellow and jigged brown synthetic, both SS and CV, at a reasonable price, and keep them constantly available. Maybe a large and medium Texas Jack, a large and medium stockman, a trapper, and a peanut.

The sowbelly should be on top James. It is real special.

I have a few...more Russlocks than any other kind...except GEC 71 72 73 74s...I think the overseas rule has gone the way of the Dodo...or anyone with half a brain is ignoring it....I doubt the person who thought that one up will ever admit to it....mainly because it was seriously retarded. Sowbellys Large Stockmans and Russlocks...nnnyand Canoes 😚

One of my earliest knives was a Case trapper. With little fingers at the time, I used the Spey 90% of the time for little kid woodcraft. Still love them to this day. Partially because I can actually acquire a stockman! Ugh, I did lose a perfect copperlock while kayak guiding that I still kick myself over to this day.

I like the sentiment and the fact in this thread that accessibility is important. My brother who is not a knife freak always carry’s a Case because he just likes it. Bought it in some random Ace hardware. Good knives for everyone, nearly everywhere.

When I was a kid I’d always drool over the rotating display cases on the counters of many gun and bait stores I’d visit with my father.

Case knives… yeah!

Got my first one at a hardware store - still have it too! It’s an Amber jigged bone trapper with the TruSharp steel. When I bought it, I didn’t know that blade centering was a thing, that a little blade wobble was bad, that the back springs shouldn’t stand proud of the rest of the handle, that the knife should be hard to open and snap shut like a bear trap or that TruSharp wasn’t the PREFERRED steel choice.
I needed a knife to cut stuff.
It still works well for that!

Some of you do make a point (no pun intended) about the rounded tips on some Case tumbled knife blades; however, the rounded tip is easy enough to fix with a few swipes of the spine of the tip on a stone. I've further proof that the rounded tips are not really a problem as I've successfully poked my self and drawn blood a few times with such blades. A couple/three more pictures of Case knives.
