Ok, so I got the Bk10 in yesterday. And yes, it was a very happy day! (I love getting new Knives. Who doesn't?)
Yesterday was the first time for me to actually hold a BK10 or see one in person. Before it arrived, I really didn't know what I was going to think about it.
From the pictures I've seen, it looked a little stubby. The Blade sweep is different than any other Becker I own, and I own all of them except the BK1 and the BK3.
I usually like a more gentle curve but after beating on this thing all day and cutting up stuff side by side with a few other knives, I must say that I am surprised at how well it works! At this point, I think it gives the BK2 a run for its money. The weight difference is a huge deal and the nimbleness of the 10 is outstanding. Since the blade doesn't curve up till almost the tip, the sweet spot for chopping seemed like it was further towards the end of the blade which to me it seemed like it chops as good as some longer blades.
My favorite full size Becker is the BK12. Hands down. But the BK10 really handled just as good in my opinion. The straight part of the blade is almost the same between the two of them. And the point of the BK10 seems to be right in the center of the blade as well and that is a plus in my book when it comes to outdoors and bushcraft type tasks.
The length of the BK10 seems to be just right. I was able to baton thru some large logs, cross baton thru some smaller trees and branches, do some chopping, carve some points on some small sticks, and practiced making a feather stick. I used it to do food prep for breakfast this morning and to make my fire since I cooked outside on my firebox stove today.
Im not saying that the BK10 will replace my BK12 as my go to blade, but they may have to share the spotlight for a while for sure. In the past I have wished that the BK12 was just a hair shorter so I think the 10 is going to see a lot of use! At this point I'd pick it over the BK2 in a heartbeat.
I think I will eventually get a second BK10 and shape it into more of drop point so I can EDC it. I think if I got stopped with it as is, a cop might consider it a Bowie style blade. Here in Texas we can carry a 5 1/2 inch blade but it can't be a Bowie knife. Do you all think it fits in to the Bowie category??
Here's a few pics I took today.

So if any of you are on the fence about getting this knife and are looking for advice, I say go for it. It might even be more versatile than the BK2 because of the weight difference?
I will probably give an update in a month or two after the excitement wears off and I get a lot more dirt time with it. But my overall impressions are that this knife is a fantastic blade and would be good for many different tasks from survival to hunting to combat to bush crafting. I also believe it is a really underrated blade. I know that everyone who has one seems to like it and maybe since there hasn't been that many on the market before now, that not many people got to try them out. Glad Ka-bar decided to release it. They should have done it a long time ago. Maybe the BK10LE gave them a false sense of what the demand would be because they were priced so high??
Ok, that's enough of my thoughts and ramblings for today. Haha.
For those of you still waiting for your 10 to arrive, Good luck and I hope you enjoyed the pics I posted!
Take care my friends.
