My thoughts on the BK10

I've been using the Bk10 for almost two weeks now and I must say that I still love this thing!!
Been trying to use it everyday instead of my usual knives and it seems to be doing quite well.
I actually like the blunt-ish tip. Didn't think it would work as well as it does. It's great in the Kitchen, the yard, the garage, and anywhere else I need to cut some stuff up.

It works surprisingly well at cutting my 1 year old son's fruit and strawberries. Cut's the top right off. Usually use my BK11 for this task.

Slices and Dices well too.

Here the Bk10 cuts a lemon.

No problem at all. I like how it handles in the kitchen for some reason. I need to do a side by side comparison with some other knives to determine why it works so well for me.

And if any of you were wondering, yes it can handle squid.

Hopefully I can get out and take some outdoor pictures this week of the 10 getting dirty!

Enjoy!

Nice review and great pics. I must admit I like that BK10. A robust and rugged look and performance to go with it.

Make believe the BK2 and BK10 are the same width... what are the advantages/disadvantages of each design's tip/point compared to one another?

If I could get a 2 with the same clippoint and swedge as the 9 and 10............now that would be sweet!! It would be a rampless 10....just thicker. LOL

nice what wood is that?

I ordered a set of Bloodwood handles a couple of weeks ago for my BK9 and loved the look of them soo much that I ordered the set of katalox handles a couple of days ago for my BK10. To be honest they look that nice that I am almost afraid to use them...almost. Anyways a true talent I must say....but now I have to purchase a set for my BK9, BK7, BK4....damn this is getting expense.

So I decided to do a little modding on the 10 today. Liked some mods that I have been seeing and after seeing hawkhead's Bk10 I decided it was time to change mine.
I might take a little more off later, I just wanted to use it a little first before I do. I'm debating if I should change the belly just a hair too.

Oh yes I did.......

I like how it looks. It's a lot more natural looking.

That's if for now, but man let me tell you, after the grinding mod I think this is my new favorite knife. I love this thing.

On a side note:

I called Birchwood Casey today to confirm the harms of using knives that have been treated with their products for food prep and yea, It's not good.

I knew the Perma Blue was some bad stuff to use on knives that touch food but I wasn't sure about the Brass Black that I have been using.

They said do not use either one. Ugh....

Guess I will be doing some new patinas on a few knives this weekend! Yay! That's always fun.
Now I need some apple cider vinegar and some mustard and some fruit.

Hey Dex- You didn't waste any time getting your 10 personalized. The drop point mod looks good.

Great review Dex! I will be getting mine in soon via Moose..YAY! Your mods look great. I don't thing it would be considered a bowie knife. Bowies are generally longer than 5 1/2 inches. I think the blade thickness of the 10 makes it pretty clear it's a camping knife. Guess it just depends on what cop you get, and what their mood is.

I dont like this mod at all, awfull :D
And I believe that bk10 is best small Bkt knife. A real pilot survival spirit.

Heh....better than the two? Careful - you might be burned at the stake for heresy! Lol.

I agree, very nice job Dex!

Jeremy

Thank you Jeremy! Glad others like it too!

Thanks Nikki! You will love your 10 for sure. I've been taking mine with me everywhere. And yea some cops on a power trip might have a problem with it. I just don't under stand the the laws? My CHL should arrive any day now and I'll be able to can carry my HK USP 40 almost anywhere I want but they are going to restrict me on knives? Makes no sense. I should be able to carry two BK-9's if I so chose.. lol This is Texas after all.

I hate it too!!! Haha. It is an awesome knife.

I just realized... DA**, they grow lemons BIG down there in Texas. Isn't the BK-10 blade about 5-ish inches long?!

It's true. Everything is bigger in Texas. That was one large lemon tho! And the blade is 5 1/2 inches long.

Heh....better than the two? Careful - you might be burned at the stake for heresy! Lol.

Yep. I'll say it again. The BK-10 is better than the BK-2. haha
Nah. I think the both are great. But if I am going to be using a knife a lot it would be the BK-10. But if I were lost, stuck in the woods, and having to survive? The BK-2 is where it's at for sure.

OK, so I did some more work on the 10 yesterday. Got rid of the Brass Black coating I put on since the kind lady at Birchwood Casey got me thinking that I really don't want to be eating food that touched that stuff.
Lightly sanded the Bk-10 and gave it a little polish on my strop.

I hope you guys aren't tired of pictures cause I have a few more. Let me know when y'all have had enough. lol

Oh, and I forgot to mention that my backup BK-10 arrived yesterday too along with my Gamestalker.
You know, just incase I need another. haha I might keep it safe or maybe gift it to a family member who needs it. IDK.

Anyway here are some comparison pics of the stock BK-10 next to my Pimped out BK-10.

I am thinking I might just leave it all shinny and not put a patina on it? Just let it happen naturally over time?
I usually always put some kind of patina on my stripped blades to protect them at least a little.

What do you all think?

How many of you have let it happen naturally? And those of you with the BK-10LE, how do those hold up agains rust? I think those were stonewashed?

Alright, that's it for now.

Enjoy

That looks a lot better since you stripped it. You did a nice job on the grinds too. Sort of like a shorter BK12.

Thanks Warrior. And my thoughts exactly. I love the BK-12. Can't decide if I want to change the Blade edge to be a little more like the 12?
Before the 10 was released I was going to take a BK-7 and make a BK-12 Short for an EDC. But since the 10 came out, I won't have to!
