my thread closed? No reason given?

I posted a thread today in the general discussion forum about knife makers using the 'drop' marketing strategy? Some one closed the thread, but no reason was given. Did my question cross some line? Break some rule?

The thread didn't get through one page before the discussion was completely off-topic. It's nothing personal, but nothing of substance was added after the first few replies. And the second page is no better in that regard.

We don't have the time or manpower to go through every thread and cull the meaningful posts from those that sidetrack.

If you have something meaningful to add that hasn't been addressed, please let us know.

ok. I'll try my best to come up with something meaningful in my next 18 years here.
I wasn't being sarcastic. If you need me to open it back up because there's something you want to add to the thread, I'm happy to help.
Just let me know. But we will want it to stay on track...not your fault that it didn't.

When you have a thread and see it straying dramatically or headed toward areas that historically result in closure, you can "TRY" to moderate it yourself and ask posters to stay on subject. Sometimes works ,sometimes doesn't.
