Im amazed at how sharp "field sharp" is. I immediately went out back and loped a 1"+ branch off effortlessly [emoji106]. Then shaved the hair off my arm. I could not be happier, or more honored. Just like the posts read, the pictures dont do justice to the beauty these Hold. I will try when the sun is out, i dont want to post the pictures i took.

I only have one question -
I read these are blessed with blood, should i get blood on her every time she is drawn?

Probably not...[emoji9]

What a relief. I would be bleeding alot if you said otherwise.

Thank you Dobe_1

the blood thing is a myth started by ghurkahs who got tired of yanks and brits forever asking to see their knives. they are working tools & get used a lot. the owner would be anaemic if he/she had to cut themselves every time they used it. maybe we/they should change the myth to say the owner has to cut someone else...like the guy who asks to see the blade. ;)

it's time to refill the poor empty hollow shell of a starving and abused dog (or so she is telling me with her sorrowful eyes), then take her for a walk to empty her again, then eat my own breakfast.

Visions of a massively scared Gurkha, two pints low.

Edited: scarred not scared.

From everything I've ever seen or read I don't think Gurkha's get scared. Of anything.

Blessed with blood is true....when made....otherwise a common sword myth worldwide for probably the reason stated above....except in feudal times worldwide when it might have been true in many areas for someone overly forward...

Mine should be here soon, but i told Dear Yangdu to wait until she had other people and things more settled in....

Glad you really enjoy it. I'll have to get one some day.

Yes it needs blood everytime but only from the little poky thingy in that half circlish cutout where the blade meets the handle.
Some people believe that's what it's there for. :-D

I would like to see a Gurkha's face if he tells you it needs blood and you draw it through your hand and let some fake movie blood spray out of it.
He'll probably be like "whatever" or get angry for messing up his steel. :-p

Tin Chirras look nice. Can't wait to see your pictures.

Here on the east coast Mother Nature is still settling down a upset Ericka - overcast. I will try for some pictures soon.

I would never ask to see someone's "tool."

I was thinking the blood on the blade on a superstitious / karma level.

It is blessed with kami blood prior to shipment along with a prayer that it bring honor to owner and maker...

"Blessings at Shop 1

If you have an HI khukuri or if there is one in your future you should know that the knife has been blessed with Gorkha blood and prayer. Here's how this works.

When we get 20 (that's our standard shipping lot -- 20 give or take a couple) khukuris ready to ship down at the shop my Gorkha brother, Til, leads the blessing ceremony. Til and the kamis nick a finger or thumb and sprinkle a couple of drops of their blood onto the box of khukuris. And, they say a prayer which goes something like this:

A PART OF US HAS GONE INTO EACH KHUKURI, THUS GIVING THE KNIFE THE SPIRIT OF US AND OUR CULTURE AND TRADITION. WE PRAY THAT THE KNIFE IS USED ONLY FOR GOOD AND IS NEVER DRAWN IN ANGER. WE PRAY THAT THE KNIFE SERVES THE OWNER WELL AND WITH THE HONOR AND TRADITION WE SEND WITH THE KNIFE.

As far as I know the HI khukuri is the only knife in the world, including other khukuris, to carry with it such a blessing.

Hmm, my theory always was that the myth was started by idiot westerners trying to cover up their stupidity in cutting themselves with their own blade. Your theory however makes a lot of sense.

Anymore there is no blood spilled. But the khukuri are still blessed.
Just a simple Puja ceremony done that the khukuri serve their owners well and are not drawn in anger.

I know they do not generally do more than a Buddhist egg breaking ceremony for shop blessings but was unaware the kamis themselves did not do a little ceremony themselves involving a finger prick anymore prior to shipment....learn something new every day...
