My Titanium Goat Shelter and Stove Review on Woodsmonkey

Thanks Kev, that's a great review and something I've been researching for when I hopefully get to colder locations.

Couple of quick questions I didn't see in your review was how long did your stoked fire last with the maple/hardwood? Also, how do you clean out the ashes?

Thanks again!

Great right up Kev! It almost makes me want to get one and camp out in frigid weather...... Almost..

great write up indeed Kev... those things looks cool... i wish trhey weren't so darn expensive, the misses and I have been wanting a tipi style shelter for a long time..

Rock,

The stove will burn for two to two and a half hours when properly set. You have to play with the damper and the air intake/door. I found by keeping the door off of the riveted door stop, it blocked a few of the air holes. If I wanted it to burn all night, I had to set my watch to wake me up every so often. The stove was only an arm's reach away and I left a supply of the wood under the bottom to dry off and warm up for best results.

Great review! After seeing the original pics i checked out the titanium goat website and i started wondering about stove warpage. I remember when i used to do reenactment camping in wall tents with small stoves they tended to warp over time and become hard to assemble or dissassemble. How are the titanium stoves going to hold up, do they have any expected life of the stove or pipe? Any long term testing or results yet? It looks like a great idea, a little pricey, but would definately be the ticket for a comfortable nights stay. Thanks for posting that info.

any issues with warping when the stove is going full bore? I ask because i had a similar stove (not ti) that severely warped one winter when we had it going full bore. (warped and cracked)

That's a pretty sweet setup. Bet there was more than a few students or other instructors trying to share your tent at the end of a cold day.

I was thinking of trying to improvise something like that stove out of an old ammo can and some pipe, with everything packing down into the can at the end. I doubt i'll get even close to the performance of that stove but I'll give it a go.

I've always been very interested by titanium goat stuff.
Their stove seem quite inexpensive if you consider they are made of titanium. Their barrel stove are particularly impressive in terms of weight.

The tent seems pretty expensive for what it is considering it is single wall. How do they manage the pipe?

That's not too bad considering the size...and even if it did go out, I doubt it would be too hard to get going again a couple hours before your butt really has to get out of the sack.

Thanks for the info and review...it's on my radar,
