It's been a rough week after Hurricane after Hurricane Wilma passed us, three cities in the Palm Beach area were out of electricity for 8 straight days. BOY I WAS GLAD I OWNED SOME DEPENDABLE KNIVES.

My main using knives were Benchmade Nimravus (154cm), Knives of Alaska Cleaver (D2), Junglee Tactical (Aus-8), and a Gerber Freeman (440A). All of them went thru some uses from cutting meat, veggies, cans, packages, etc. Basically, I went thru some rough times and my knives made things easier. The only one that really needed a little touch-up after the 8 day ordeal was the Gerber because it was the one that I keep on my belt. I believe without these knives my life would be alot tougher. Because there are alot of things that flemsy kitchen knives would end up breaking or dulling quickly if put through the same tasks as these knives. :)

I have to second Esav. It never ceases to amaze me how many people don't think about knives when they are picking tools, yet there is truly nothing more basic ornecessary than a good knife.

That's really cool to hear, because my collection is focusing more now on Katrina-esque, utility knives. I'm looking more closely at Busses on the high end, and ontarios and beckers in the mid-range. I'm actually looking at the nimravus for a x-mas purchase; I'm glad to hear it performed well.

A very simple design, almost a skeleton, yet a highly successfull utility/survival/tactical seller. All the best are simple in design/concept but somehow the harmonics are just right. I have the Nimravus Cub, just feels good to hold.

I got all kinds of knives, mostly folders but I got a few sheath knives for my bugout bag. My 2 best are a old cold steel I have used this knive in the past mostly for cutting sagebrush and thick weeds around the house. ( I think its a recon model ) Its got really great steel to it.. tough knife
and a Norwegian laminated sheath knife. ( Hellem is I remember right ) its the Norwegian boy scout model. I keep it in my motor home for just in cases..
I havent used this knife I suppose I should..

Helle knives are excellent. It would be a good idea to take that one out and just use it, use it in the kitchen, use it fishing (it DOES come from Norway :) ), use it for general utility around the house, see how it works for you. Helle has a pretty extensive line which you can get from Ragweed Forge if you like it.

For anyone who likes the Nimravus but also likes folders, the Benchmade Ares (730 series), also designed by Alan Elishewitz, has a very similar blade in an axis lock handle.
