After seeing all the fun Dexwithers, Granitestateofmind and tjswarbrick have been having lately, I decided need to have a turn. I made drawings, a template and then drew the outline on the blade and handle. Next I started grinding on the belt grinder to achieve the shape. I kept everything cool with cold water and a light touch with the grinder. When the TLAFAR principle was reached, I stopped. Here's the resulting shape to start my mod. I didn't forget the 11 and 14 that I started. I could not wait to work outside in the sun today. The entire shape was changed except for the lanyard hole. That will be removed later.
TLAFAR= That Looks And Feels About Right

Oh yea!!! About time Hawkhead......... I can't wait to see your masterpiece when it's all done.

The blade and handle shape are looking real nice.

TLAFAR! Love it. That's my motto too I believe.

That's a nice start...
Love the blade shape. Then again, I love the 16. May need to get my own FFG version to bring the drop down (up?) on, though.

I have trouble with TLAFAR. Usually if it FR, it doesn't LR... But every day, in every way, I'm getting better and better.

But I still want to see your scales for the 14 and 11!
Micarta is so much easier to grind than steel. Honest.

Had to do just a bit more. I cleaned up the sharpening choil.

I never know who will show up during the workday. Today my buddy Mr. Coyote stopped by. He was moving quickly and I was a little too slow getting the camera.

Oh yeah, I anticipate another winner!

Thanks for the comments and encouragement everyone. I decided to prepare some walnut for the 11, 14 and 16 scales.

I love your mod in progress threads Hawk. I have been gathering materials for months for future mods thanks to your inspiration.

A little bit more progress today. I started to remove tool and grinding marks after I stripped the 16. I started with 180 wet or dry lubed with WD-40 and backed with my Great Planes sanding block. This step will take me a few hours before moving to the 220.

Your not done with that thing yet??!!! Lol.

Just joking man. I know how long these things take. I just can't wait to see how this thing looks finished.

Nice job on the sanding. Sure wish Ka-bar wouldn't give us so many grind marks tho.

Not up to my pre injury speed. There is a lot of wet sanding to do before this knife has the metal finish I'm looking for. Getting the blade finish smooth is time consuming and the ricasso has deep marks from the manufacturing process that require some serious attention in order to keep everything square. This is the walnut I will be using for scales.
