my two day old Ti-Lock is ruined (for now)

I paid full street price plus state tax on mine on Monday bringing it to over $500. It took me a long time to pay this one off (layaway) and in about three minutes of letting a few coworkers play with it yesterday, it was ruined... the blade has significant vertical play now and action and lockup is very smooth/weak. I'll be sending it into CRK for repair tomorrow. I'm assuming the lock was pulled up way too far by a dimwitted coworker, who I might add never admitted guilt, and the soft Ti bent out of shape although it looks normal to my eyes. I'm pretty pissed off that I have to wait likely 2 months to get my knife back that I've had for two days and waited much longer to acquire in the first place :(

Has anyone heard of lock and/or lockup issues with these? I am a bit surprised it was tweaked enough to ruin it just by an uninformed user (my fault). Nobody other than myself will play with my knives from now on...

Sorry to hear that, can't believe some is stupid enough to bend the lock bar on a Ti-lock.
Kidcongo(Cody did an in depth review on the Ti-lock including taking it apart. Read it and see if will help you resolve the issue without having to send it in. I'm betting, like the pocket clip, it cold formed and may need an adjustment to put it right. Just a thought.
Hell of a way to realize you work with idiots. I don't let any of my co workers use, much less play with any of my knives, especially my CRK's
I'm looking at my Ti-lock and thinking it will take an enormous effort to bend the lock bar. I've never had any issues with mine.

Yeah I feel for you deeply. Other guys even knife guys just don't knife snobs like us. So sorry man.

The only way I could see this happening is reefing upwards on the spring. The knife has a stop pin, so bearing down on it shouldn't affect the spring. I've never pulled hard upwards on the spring, it never crossed my mind to do so, but imagine it could bend if you did that. Maybe the dude was trying to adjust your lock tension?....similar to those guys who try to weaken the detent on their frame locks? Anyways, I see no way it could be retensioned without pressing the spring out of the knife, so I would send it in to CRK.

Damn that sucks! I brought a Mnandi into the office to show a coworker. I handed it to him while I was discussing an issue with someone else. Next thing I know he was flicking it open as hard as he could. Certainly not to the level of frustration as you.

Sorry to hear about this happening. Unfortunately, ignorance is everywhere these days while accepting responsibility for one's actions is nowhere to be found. As a general rule, I won't ever let anybody outside my family play with my knives just for the sake of seeing them. As my luck would have it, somebody would eventually cut themselves with one of my knives and then probably try to sue me. That would be just what I need.

I hope CRK can resolve the issue with yours.

Sorry to hear, and hope it gets resolved. Whenever I show coworkers my blades, I tell them what not to do with it. Reminds me of my best friend handing a revolver to a coworker, who promptly spun the cylinder, then slapped it up into the frame. You gunmen know that one...;-)

Did a pistol whipping follow?

Ugh... Everybody wants to be a 70s police movie detective... Had a brother in law who did that to one of my wheelies. Grrrrrrrrr. :(

If I know they are not into Knives ~~ then they only c-um & look-e @ them -- "no-touch-e" or bad karma cuma dar way
quickly.!** fur-sur...*

I would imagine CRRK will take care of that, and if you call them...who knows, they might feel some compassion and grease it through a bit faster for you?

I could tell you some stories about loaning a nice knife out to co-workers...bottom line is, you take a risk when you do it. These knives are built tough, and so are nice tools (such as Snap-on wrenches), but in the wrong hands, any tool can be damaged quickly.

Dubya, I'm in pain just reading your account of this.

I do not put any of my knives (or lights) in the hands of others save for my supervisor, who is also a knife and light guy like us.

I hope CRK can help you over the phone so you don't have to send it in to them. If you do have to send it in, I hope you get it back perfect and quick. :)

I did take the blade out after posting this last night and contemplated pressing the strap out but without the right tools at my house I decided against attempting it. I don't want to have to pay who knows how much for a new lock strap plus $135 for a blade.

We're ready mix drivers so most can imagine there's a plethora of attitudes and intelligence among my coworkers. I've sold at least one Benchmade or Spyderco to 8 of them here at work so they aren't exactly idiots when it comes to knives but definitely not enthusiasts either.

KidCongo, I don't think whoever it was was trying to help me adjust it, probably more of a what will happen if I push this button. I'm more upset I'll have to wait for a long time than what it'll cost me but I'm ticked either way. The dumb thing is I don't let anyone actually use my knives to cut something, I learned that with a snapped tip on an old griptilian years ago but now there won't be any fondling.

This made me cringe reading it and sorry about that. If it's loose or weak, I think you're just gonna have to send it in, and reason #1 why no one else besides my wife or my buddy who's a CRK owner ever gets to handle my knives. Some guys may have 50 knives and be so-called "knife guys" but have no idea how to act with other people's stuff.

I was in the office the day my friend received his small Starbenza which was like his 4th or 5th CRK, and this immature female intern they had walks in and says "What's so special about this knife?" and proceeds to pick it up with all her rings on and starts shoving it in and out of the pocket of her jeans. I'm standing there cringing figuring it's rubbing up and down against jean rivets, but miraculously there was no scratches. I think he learned his lesson after that...

I use fountain pens (don't ask).

I continue to be amazed at how many people will grab one of my pens, hold it with the nib upside down (or sideways) and then mash it down onto a piece of paper as hard as they can. Often hard enough to bend and permanently damage the nib.

Then they bitch that they don't understand the point of fountain pens since they don't write smoothly and/or blotch ink all over the page. Yeah, umm ... maybe try not being a moron?

Sorry to hear about this misshap. Sending it back to CRK would be the best choice. Hope that all goes well and you get back the knife soon..

Sorry to hear that.... the idiots who break knives like this have only played with or owned gas station knives, i bet he was trying to break it in for you like he would a $5 pakistan special from cheap gas mart. Worst part is he denied it. POS SOB.

If i caught one of my workers doing that he would have gotten slapped on the head so fast he would have dropped that knife on the floor

I've had some really surprising turnover times with the company.
I have to resist the urge to show my knife (knives) to people, I am very proud of them and they make me feel good inside.
If somebody shows me their push lawn mower and is excited about it I will brag on it myself. (why not?).
99% of people could give two shits less about our hobby. The other 1% deal knives but just do it to turn a profit.
Rant over
Crk will fix you up better than new
Take care. (i was kinda surprised the ti lock clip really grew on me)
