Martindale 18" on top, Ontario 12" DHandle on bottom...
I gave the martindale a custom grip job. Fits my hand like a glove. The ontario's handle is a bit bulky but they are great machetes none the less. I am kind of ashamed to show such a new machete, but I replaced my old ontario only a few weeks ago and have only had a few trips to break in the new orange handled one.
The longer machete is only carried with me on trips that the specific goal is to chop trail. It is mainly used around our 7acre property, maintaining trails, pruning trees, trimming undergrowth and harvesting bananas. It has a much thinner blade than the ontario and doesn't do as well on any woods, but for ferns, or soft new growth it glides right through with a satisfying *ping*.
The 12" ontario goes with me any time I am in the woods hunting, fishing or just hiking. Perfect balance between portability and blade weight for me.
