Here are my two Nessmuk-style knives. The first is a Koster with black acacia scales I got a couple of weeks ago. The second is a Fiddleback with lacewood scales that arrived yesterday. Both make me extremely happy. I will not compare them or rate them against each other. Seeing them side by side makes me realize how different they are. The Fiddleback is much more traditional and old school looking, whereas the Koster looks modern, almost a Nessmuk-Santouku hybrid. Both have very nice leather sheaths and poorly tied lanyards I stuck on. Anyway, on to the pics:

The Koster also looks much bigger in real life. The blade is much wider and about an inch longer. The handle is only 1/8 inch or so longer. The overall effect is that it dwarfs the Fiddleback knife.

I'll post more of my thoughts when I have had a chance to use both knives more. For now, let's just say I am extremely happy with both.

very nice...

fiddleback's nessmuks rock.. i love mine.. i have one in indian rosewood... it's a great user... that koster looks like a beast.....

Good lookin pics. I own a Koster Nessmuk too. It is beastie!!! Dan is a knifemaker who has helped me a LOT.

How do you like that brass and g-10 lanyard tube and g-10 pin???

I can't wait for my nessmuk to arrive. Snow, your post of the Koster nessmuk a couple weeks ago is what pushed me over the edge to order one :)

Those are great looking knives Snow.

The above knives are terrific looking. I own one by Fiddleback and it goes just about everywhere with me. Used it to practice with some char cloth I made last weekend and it worked great. I'm on the list for the Koster bushcraft knife and can't wait! Both these guys are producers of quality work in a world where planned obsolescence is the name of the game. Andy, TOP NOTCH WORK!

LOL. Its hard to plan to be obsolete when you're making a 100 year old design....

Some things are timeless.

I was wondering what that middle pin was! Haha, I had no idea. I like it. I really like the lanyard tube. It looks like it will protect the lanyard and prevent fraying/destruction of it by the edges of brass.

Maybe I should feel guilty for causing you to spend the money, but I'm also happy for you. What a fantastic knife.

Agreed. The thing is, I have a hard time remembering these things only cost around $100 each. Neither is custom-ordered to my specs, but they could have been. I would so much rather own one of these handmade knives than a mass-produced model. Not to mention the wood scales look beautiful.

Nah, but if you get a nasty private message from my wife, you shouldn't be surprised

Now what you SHOULD feel guilty about is trying to convice me via pictures to order a Fiddleback Nessmuk as well :grumpy:

:D:D:D:D:D Hilarious!! Lovin that post!:thumbup::D:D:p

This one in the front is ebony. I just like to warn people about ebony, and cracking. If you plan to take good care of your knife (keep that handle mineral oiled) maybe it won't be a problem. But ebony is a risky wood.

The more I look at it, the more I like the G10 pin. I've never seen that on a knife before.

Kewl!!!! I really like em too! Technically its FR4, which is fire retardant G-10. They use it to make motherboards. Its actually the same color as the lanyard tube!

The warmth of good wood beats plastic composition any day in my book. I like that knife! And spending a bit of quality time with a favored knife is time well spent, IMHO.

Yeah it's funny - it looks almost black sometimes, but when you hold it up to the light you can tell how light it really is.
