I am so happy my university (KU!!) got the funding needed to bring back blacksmithing. While it is not a strictly knife making it is general blacksmithing and you pick one major project. I am soooo happy!

swilliamf,

Hey man, that's GREAT! I would have loved to take a blacksmithing course in college. Good for KU. And if by KU, you are referring to the University of Kansas, too bad Texas Tech has to sweep you off the field tomorrow!! :D:D

Nah, I'm just kidding, but it will be fun to see how Tech handles its first big challenge this year. Hopefully I won't have to use this smiley: :foot:

Man, I'm so freakin' jealous. My uni won't even let us HAVE knives on campus, let alone make them!

Even though I can make a dozen arguments for how knife design, steel choice, and heat treatment are engineering, and I'm a freakin' engineering student!

My college has one forging project- a cold chisel, i've been warned off of bringing any knives or cutting tools into college, or of using any of the machines to manufacture parts for "weapons"

I'ma llowed to use milling machines, lathes, pillar drills, air tools, grinders etc. yet a pocket knife is just too dangerous. it's insane!
