My Very First Custom 112

I did order the first and last Custom Shop 112's during the brief window in 2008 and recently bought a customer returned 112 and had my name and BCCI number engraved on it..I have more than a dozen customs picked up over the years but this is the first one that I had made just for me outside of the Buck shop . But it won't be the last ! I told myself that I would have one of Sk's Lil' Jack with a D2 blade made into a custom but when I had to ship a 112 to David the chance to have a double custom, Leroy plus Mr Dowdy work, I could not resist . I'm on a limited Buck budget so each 112 that I add to my collection, custom or EBay find, is a big deal...

That makes more sense, I was just brain farting as I've seen so many of yours over years.

If I ever want to feel humbled as a Buck collector all I have to do is go to any page of the 'Let's see your Stag Ivory and Pearl ' threads ...So many truly beautiful Bucks ..I have a small idea now of what involved in fancy inlay work with artists like Prater and YellowHorse do. There are no shortcuts on fine details but one thing I consider special about mine is the high quality of all the materials used. Few will use pure silver for instance and the fact that every single component on this custom is hand made..No CNC machine work at all. David told me it took hour's to cut the jewelry wire by hand for the little diamonds. Every time I blow up pictures I see new small details. .

Old Hunter I feel the same way. ..It's the first really fancy inlay work 112 I have since I found a early 'Lacy' way back in 2009 or so . The fact that it's truly a 1of 1 and has 2 oz of silver inlayed in the handles ..I have to Google Red Kirinite as I don't know what it is lol!

Richard my son has already claimed it. .But he will have to pry it off my belt before they close the lid..

That blade looks like it was slightly recurved, which is awesome. Never seen a 112 like this. Beautiful knife.

The blade is a reprofiled 531 or 532 blade by Leroy Reamer that he made for a show in 2009 . I've only seen the example I have but I can't imagine many were made since I've chased odd 112's for over 10 years and never seen another. It's a odd profile for sure..

Respectfully, I’ve pulled out a couple 531 and 532 knives and tried to mach the blade to your 112. I’m struggling to make your blade from either.

The tang stamp on your blade was never on any 531 knives as far as I can tell. Ive seen your tang stamp on the 532 but your blade has no nail nick and I don’t see any evidence that the blade on your knife ever had the characteristic blade choil of the 531 or 532.

Also I don’t think a 531 blade would fit a 112 frame but Leroy Remer is an artist and if anybody could it would be Leroy.

The 532 blade size is close to a 112 but if you look at a 532 I don’t think you could recurve the blade and eliminate the choil and make it look like your 112.

Of course I could be wrong but studying your photos I just haven’t been able to visualize the process on my own.

Beautiful knife though....

Good eye and great post, Christiantrevor. Also, the blade on Clint's knife has a slight recurve. I don't recall that seeing many Buck blades. Preston

I got the knife with 2 other of Leroy's customs from my brother. I was searching old threads about odd 112's when I found a post by him about this knife saying that Leroy made them for a show in Oregon in 2009 and he called it a 512 and that it was the only one without file work and bare headed. David in that same thread said Leroy used a 532 or 531 blade and reprofiled to fit a 112 frame. That's all I know as I have not talked directly with Leroy about it. I am certain that Leroy can make any blade fit a 112 if the mood strikes him lol ! Like I said I have never seen another but with I'm sure someone will post a pic if they see this thread...I just searched and found that Leroy called it a 512 Raptor.

Just did a little more digging and contacted a BCCI officer who listed and sold one one on eBay 7 or 8 years ago ...He might post here about it but if he gives any information I'll post it . It caused a little stir back in the day mostly about what should be called a Buck ..

My apologies Bucks way I am having grief again posting photos.
I posted mine on the BCCI facebook page Feb. 11,you can see it there

I'm weak working Facebook but I spent 2 hours looking back to February 6 and did not find it...I paused quite a few times to like and make a few comments .

Canoe are you using a phone for pictures? Settings 1 to 1, take picture. Then on your phone hit upload a file at the bottom of this window. Pick pictures then the particular pic you want posted. Then hit full size. Done.
