My Visit and Full Tour of the Spyderco Factory - PICS

What Awesome luck!! One thing I really appreciate about Spyderco is that it's run by real people, not bean counters. Your experience is one example. Another is when Sal comes on here and chats with us. So many sucsessfull company owners insulate themselves from the regular people who buy their product. But it's those personal touches that make me feel like there is a connection between the knives that I buy and the people who designed and manufactured them. Very classy!

Awesome, awesome story. Thanks for sharing.

I think it's clear: we all need to do our part, and buy even more Spyderco knives :D

How does the greatest knife company in America almost go under??

Face it, expensive knives are a luxury. When people have to economize, luxuries are the first thing to go. When your company produces luxury items and the economy is going down the tubes, you're in trouble.

Thank you for sharing! At least we'll get to see the philosophy being passed down to Eric and many years to come!

A company can only be as good as the leadership is, see how the influence into the employees.

I grew up in a family-owned small business. Sometimes even little changes in the market or the economy have outsized impacts on small businesses. This story makes me feel proud of all Sal, Gail, Eric, and the Spydie-crew have accomplished. Thanks for sharing your passion with us, guys!

Fantastic story! the tour you got was indeed RARE! I have been going to the SFO for years living just 20 minutes from Golden and always ask about a tour and even got to know the guys and gals behind the counter very well as I was going once a week there for a while. I have yet to meet Gail, Eric or Sal in person but I have seen them at the seconds sale.

You really got the first class treatment and I have heard that there is rarely openings at Spyderco because they all love their job and feel like family there. Great story

That is great! I want to make it there someday, but could not swing it this year.

Thanks for the pictures.

best

Thank you for your story and pictures.

I'm not an "active" member of this forum by any means.
Occasionally, I skim through the forums, and post a question when I have certain inquiries.

Through my lurkings, I've read what a great company Spyderco is, how much they care about their customers, etc. but I always took it as "fanboy" talk (no offense) as I had never experience this first-hand nor read a particular example of how they were so great or what they did to earn such a title.

I just wanted to say that your story created in me a newfound knowledge and respect for this great company.

Thanks again for your post!

Great story, thanks for the pics. Gail is a very nice lady and has good taste in cars as well as knives :D
