I finally got around to this! I'm so happy with how it's turning out. I have a lot of stuff to add to it, but it's started and able to be viewed. I had a lot of help from some friends in getting it going.

I'd love to hear what you think of my start.

Scott, the size of the menu items as well as the blue color compared to the background makes it hard to read.

Scott, I would recommend that you increase the size of your font., change the colour of your headings from purple to black, and get photos in your gallery as ASAP.

i got penalized for a post almost identical to this but o-well look'en good brother!!!!

The advice from you and Padrig is good on the color and font sizes.

As far as getting photo in, that will have to wait. I'm busy making knives for a show on April 12, 13. I might get to it Friday or Saturday though. I have a friend coming over who is really good at website stuff. He offered to come over and give me a hand.

Really? I debated on what forum to put it in. I figured it was knifemakers helping knifemakers with stuff, so chose this one.

Moderators, if this isn't the correct forum for this, I apologize.

Scot, I'm afraid that I couldn't get much to come up either.

Looking forward to checking again. :)

I was working on it as you were typing this, so I had it all screwed up. You can check it now. I made some of the changes that were suggested and added two more photos. I'm learning. Slowly.

In your about me section put a picture or some image on the right hand side and then keep the text to the left. I feel that when it is spanning the whole page it is just harder to read quickly.

A format such as having borders on the page and the text centered might work.
Look at this page for example. It is simple like your website but the text centered only in the middle and not reaching the edges makes it easier to read in my opinion. http://www.mizzoumuleguns.com/id14.html

Also put the about section on how you make your knives on a separate page which you can put some images of your work area and such. Leave the About me section for who you are only.

Also reserving this spot for some images which I will upload for you in a bit. If you want the font in the images to be something else let me know.

At the time you were not a paying member. You are now though and that is allowed for members with knifemaker memberships. :D

you get the idea of what is possible. I picked some fonts and colours based on what I saw so far.

You can browse fonts at www.dafont.com and I can change stuff up if you want. Let me know if you want a background for your main logo (I should have left it transparent to show your background behind the text) or even a different colour. I tried the cyan like you did but it looked bad with the font I chose. I made all the file small sized gifs so you won't be wasting your bandwidth.

Have you thought about using a black/dark chocolate background for your website and using white text? It is very readable and smart at the same time. You could then use the same colour I used for the main logo and the blue I used as the accent colours on the website.

take care:

Edit each of those blue boxes is a separate image so if you need you can order them how you want and also lay them in a line from left to right. You put the image inplace of the text link as it looks a ton better visually than anything you can do with just plain text formatting. If you want the main logo to have a drop shadow and raised like yours let me know. If you need something else written feel free to ask. I can't give back with knife knowledge, as I am still learning about them, to this forum so if I can give back this way it works for me.

edit 2: for your pictures to look good. http://www.google.com/search?q=how+...s=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a
