It could actually work out. Some other sites do a gift registry type of thing.
If the person knows what product you like and wants to get you a gift you'll appreciate, such a thing makes getting an appreciated gift that much less hassle.

I'm not talking a gift registry on my site. I'm saying you email and say this is what I want and here is my wife's email address. She wouldn't even have to look. It would come straight to her inbox w/ links to buy it.
