First of all, most of you probably dont know who the hell I am. For the most part I was a collector of knives but then got inspired by many to try my hand at knifemaking. I have only been at this seriously for about 3 months. That was when I got my Coote. I started with a little old Dayton 2x42" and damn near gave up. I am happy I didnt. I have fallen in love with this trade. This is my 4th blade and I think it turned out ok. I didnt finish filing the spine since my wife wants to test it first. I will let that be her decision.

Be easy on my guys/gals. This is nothing like what I see on the forum. Just a simple blade that tested my learning curve a little.

Here is a little something I made for the wife. An early Anniversary, Late Valentines and for carrying my boy in her tummy for me. As you can see, Jr. is growing like a weed already:D

After drooling over Martin Olexeys "Six Cleaver" I got inspired to make the wife a blade.

I traded Martin for some of his Smashed Hippie Micarta from Butch Harner. Thanks for the trade and inspiration buddy!

Aldo's 1084
7 1/4" OAL
Smashed Hippie Micarta

Thank you all for looking!

Very nice! I like the wild micarta and the engine turning. That 1084 is pretty beefy, eh? What's the next project?

Thank you for the kind words! Yes, Aldo's 1084 is beefy....but I like that about it. It provides a nice grip:D I am working on getting some thinner stock in to lighten them up a bit.

Next project is still being worked out in my head. I hope to have more done soon. Thats if I dont end up burying them in the backyard:eek: Like I said, I damn near gave up on my 2x42"......But it gave me practice and determination to work harder. Since getting the Coote, I have improved some...but still have so much further to go. But thats what is so great about this Knifemaking thing...It pushes you every time!

Thanks for the kind words bro!

Chris

Chris,

Coool knife. Nice and flashy!

Question: With it riding that high on the belt, does it seems the handle might poke the wearer in the side from time to time???

All the best, Phil

PS -- When's the special day?

Pretty cool knife, and I like the Kydex as well Chris. And congrats on the good news!

A very nice job for your fourth.Just a few thoughts on how to make it better.
First, the sharp corners on the handle are gonna cause hot spots in the hand, put a slight radius on them. Will make it feel better.
Second,I would have brought the grind line up about a 1/4" to even out the blade, thats just a personal opinion.

Really good,keep it up.
Stan

Thank you Phil!

I noticed that when she put strapped it on, I asked her if I could round off the tang end a bit and she said no...lol I said the same thing, might be a little pokey. I might make a new sheath for it, or maybe do a drop leg type thing for her.

We are expecting Devin Christopher to be here July 25th, thats the plan anyway:thumbup:

Thank you very much GB! I was clueless on this as well. I admired Martin Olexey's work he did on the "Six Cleaver" and asked him all about it. You more or less chuck a Cratex rod in your press and overlap each circle to your taste. I am still learning it myself....This was the third time I tried it. Gets better with practice, trust me....LOL
How did you do the engine turning, I love that look!!! Great piece BTW!

John,

Thank you so much bro. You know I love your knives buddy. That means a great deal coming from you as well. And thanks for the congrats, I am pumped buddy. Cant wait to hold him:D

Stan,

Yeah, I noticed that too. On the others I have made I rounded and blended them better. I will most likely take your advice and round them off a bit. Who likes blisters and blunt objects to the palm of our hands? I will take your advice my friend. I like the shaloow grind though, but I see what you mean!!

All great responses guys, I thank all of you!!

Nice knife...especially the jeweling.

It is an unwritten rule that if your wife models a knife, you must post at least one photo of the whole person. (with the exception of JT's ex-girlfriend).:D

I like it, being a hotrodder, I have thought about engine turning before, but have yet to finish one of the three knives I have started yet, lol. The engine turning is cool. Nice knife all around. Mark.

Wow, Stacy even commented on the blade. Huge compliment from ya pal!!! Thanks, ummm....Wife pics....I am sure I can dig some up....but she will be clothed:D

My newest grandson will be one this July. I have made him a small forging hammer and a tiny set of tongs. You can't start planning these things too soon.

Well everything about it says it's "not my cup of tea", so to speak. But damn almost everthing about it says I like it!

I like the wild Micarta, I like the jeweling, not wild about the shape of the handle, I hate the Kydex (pesonal prefrence) but overall, let's just go with, I like it!

Very pretty, nicely original and the jewelling look great,
I need to know your technique on this.

Best Regards.

Thank you Jason!

Awesome work! can't wait to see more!

Jason

LOL, It did the same to me Dixie. It just grows on me daily. Thank you!!

I am going to round off the squared micarta. Once I get my small wheel attachment from Norm it will help in my handle work. Plus I can do some texturing. Thanks for your honesty:thumbup::D

Gusval,

I just took Martins advice. Bought some cratex rods. You just chuck them in your press....I went with the fastest speed, but could probably slow it down a bit. He told me to just overlap each circle as straight as I can. I would practice on some scrap first to get a feel for it. I kind of rushed it after my quick practice lesson and my brothers did not turn out as well. My wifes looks good and think I got better at it. Oh, and he also said wire brush wheels work too with buffing compound. I have not tried it that way, I like the rubber/Cratex abrasives. But again...I have not tried the brush yet.

Good luck and I hope to see some of your work with the Jeweling soon!

Thanks for the support guys.
