OK, so after many years of trying out tools and refining my choices, I've finally come up with the one set of tools that works best for me.

OK, that's a lie. I came up with three. Each has a small advantage in one area or another over the others, but each set can do everything that needs doing, or can build what is needs to do what needs doing.

1.) Nepali style -- 20" CAK and 5" R-10 knife:

2.) New Indian style -- 24" Vec hawk, and 10" Busse Bushwhacker Mistress:

3.) Scandi style -- GB hunter's axe, Jarvenpaa Leuku and puukko:

And since I'm a gear whore, I can't choose only one of the three, so i grab whatever set I feel like using that time out.

I like the CAK one, mainly because I want a CAK :p

However, I can see benefits with each of them. Nice

Spare BOB's, dude. Build three different kits based on the bushcrafting you feel like doing-modern, scandi and amalgam traditional, haha...

LOL, let's see, I got my kit based around my Kifaru Zulu -- that's definitely for the Vec/Busse combo.

Then there's my Duluth Pack and leather/canvas collection, which either of the other two go with, it's just a matter of whether I want to be a Viking or Ghurka that day!

Don't have exact numbers, but:

The CAK and R-10 together weigh about 4 pounds. Add maybe another pound for the leather Baldric rig.

The Scandi Combo weigh about 3 pounds all together, including sheaths (the knife sheaths are very light waxed leather and the axe has a bit guard).

The Vec/Busse are by far the lightest, coming in at roughly 2 pounds combined, with sheaths.

My combo's lately have been centering around one of my 10"ers and a couple smaller knives.

If going deeper into the backcountry then I throw on either my M-43 kukri or my Estwing 44a.

Nice! All of them are great combos man....You have alot of time in with the Nepali setup dont cha?

Love that Vec Hawk.....

guess a lot of us are lucky to have so much gear that before taking off we can tailor our tools to that day or that trip. thanks for the good pics.

How does the vec hawk compliment the BM? I am asking to be educated, because I would imagine the busse out chops the hawk. It seems like 2 choppers?

the hawk will easily out chop the busse. the small bit generates lots of power on the long shaft. the busse can't compete with it but it is a good all around tool capable of doing many things
