My Word....

Very nice!
Any specifics? dimensions, blade steel, your dealings with the maker?

Hi knarfeng knarfeng , I bought it pre-owned at a local gun shop, around 15 years ago. The shop owner was fond of buying high end items at estate auctions and private sales. I recall paying him around $300 for the beauty, but I wasn't into specifics back then, and didn't get any other info. I can tell you it's 12"" oal with a 7 1/2" blade, 3/16" thick. Some kind of burlwood handle, steel unknown, but never showed signs of rust. Sharp, looks original, never used. Custom leather sheath. It feels good in the hand, great balance. I tried to find something about the maker, but no luck. I may well have " the last Word ". Thanks for asking!

Whatever else it is, it is a good looking piece of cutlery.
Thanks for posting it.

You're welcome! I'm so happy somebody noticed It! I don't have any knife pals around my home area, so I never got to show this to anyone who could appreciate it. I myself loved it at first sight! Thanks again knarfeng knarfeng .

Most of us are in that position. That's why we hang out here. ;)
Hey, I feel better now! Sometimes, it's lonely being the only "knife guy" around. I feel like there are others like me at this forum, who appreciate the details and intrinsic value of various blades, like you! And I hope to be able to say hi to as many of them as I can. The brotherhood of steel!

Do you know the full name of the maker? Googling "word" and "knife maker" or "knife" or "custom knife" doesn't do anything useful.

Hey there T Twindog , I do not know the full name of the maker, unfortunately. WORD is all that is on the blade, and also 063, no other markings that I can see. Thanks for asking!

Looks like jimping, but longer than usual, and could be either. File work is decoration. Jimping is for grip.

Below is some file work.

Wow, Twindog! Now I see. I didn't realize that filework could be so interesting and intricate! I learn something every time I come here, Thanks! As to the Word, I don't know which that would be considered.

Ahhh, somebody asked me earlier "What's the good word?"

I was unsure at the time, but now I'll just forward a link to this thread.

That's a nice piece, I'd say the spine was file-worked to break up the big slab of steel.

I'm not much for choils, especially when there's already a guard in place, but it probably aids in sharpening.

I really like the handle... the wood, the guard, the buttcap and pins all make for a very appealing look.

Right on Velitrius Velitrius ! I'll live by the Good Word! Or, in rough times, I'll go with " the Word on the street ". Haha. But yeah, I too, find the handle, pins, guard to look pretty cool. Unsure about the finger choil, probably won't be choking up for " fine " work with this one! Thank you kindly for your thoughts.

I wonder if Bernard Levine would have heard of your knife and know something about the maker.

Wouldn't hurt to ask.

Great knife, by the way.

Thank you for the suggestion Der Verminator Der Verminator , I am sorry to say I do not know who Bernard Levine is, nor how to contact him. An expert of knives and their makers, I take It?
