My Work Enviroment

Wow, thanks for the pic's! Yes, you sure do "earn" your money like Doc said. I have always been intrigued with mining. I went to college in southern Ohio which was an old mining area and I used to sit and wonder what it was like for those old miners back in the early years. What hard work that had to be. Still is I'm sure!

Thomas that was a cool tour of the place where you work, But i am going to tell you
I would not do that job for a million dollars a year. LOL

thanks again for the pics.

Bryan

Thanks for sharing the pictures with us, those are pretty cool. Mining is something that has always fascinated me, don't know why. I wouldn't mind going on to work in the mining industry after college, maybe working with the equipment and such, if agriculture doesn't work out for me. Know a guy or two who graduated from the university in the same major as mine that work with CAT on big open-pit mining equipment.

Low, thats high around these parts, some mines around here are as low about 30" + or - a few inches . That one in the pic is between 5.5' ~ 7' !
We need more miners, not many out there & the demand for coal is increasing but then that just makes me worth more :D

My company makes fiberglass scrubbers for the coal fired power plants, as well as liners for the chimneys, so thank you for keeping us in business!

That's truely amazing! My grandfather dug coal for years, one of the, if not the, toughest men I ever known. It takes a special breed not only physically strong, but mentally strong as well. Thanks for what you do!

You have my respect for doing a really tough, dangerous job. My grandfather at 16 came to the US in 1898 and worked in the mines in Pennsylvania. They must have been a nightmare back in those days. Keep up the good work. Everytime we turn on a light switch it works because of the coal you provide us with.

I can't even stay in a small room without leaving the door open. A while back they tried to put me into a CAT scan machine and I went ballistic and they just gave up on that. As a kid I wouldn't even go down in the root cellar unless the door was left wide open. I could never do that kind of work. I would feel safer in the jungle with a dozen bad guys after me. You are tougher than me.

Very cool pictures. My great grandfather worked in a coal mine for years. Seems like a very tough job. Do you carry any flashlights with you?

I have never worked in the mines, I broke the string. Dad did, so did his Dad at least 5 generations back. same on Mom's side her dad did ,I remember Dad talking of working in 26 inches, I don't envy you work, Now being a plumber I do alot of crawling in tight spaces but if I need a brake I can crawl 25 feet and stand up you can't do that in a mine

Just the light on hat, the only lights that I know of that are MSHA approved are made by pelican lights, I have 2 of them but never take them.

I, at 6'7" 280 lbs, would not be happy in that environment for the most part. Nice pics.

What if you break thru a wall and zombies or dinosaurs attack? You need a Busse in a horizontal sheath or something.

I'm 6'1" 217lbs myself, & my Pick Hammer is a NASTY WEAPON that I have mastered :p

Thanks guys, It ain't easy & in no way fun but that is the main industry in this area & pays more than most jobs.

I got uncomfortable just looking at the pictures.
My hat is off to you. Tough job.
Doc

Great pics bro, I worked at a mine myself for 17 years but as a welder on the surface coal prep plant. I did also work as a blacksmith for a while though carrying out shaft maintenance ( ours was a deep mine as opposed to a drift ) and that was pretty exciting as the shaft was 1/2 mile deep !!!

We could only take intrinsically safe cameras down our mine incase they ignited any gases, doesn't yours have any gas ?

Great pics once again, thanks for showing those, brought back memories !!!!!

Nope Gas Free, They do checks all the time & have never found gas, The mine is on top of the mountian. The miner man & pine men carry spotters(gas detectors on them & the miner has a built in methane monitor so I keep a check anyway.
