Here’s a shot of my wussy Altoids tin kit from this past week. I had to dig out my needle and thread so I took a few shots of it in the shelter. It normally rides in the pouch of my BK-7 but since I wasn’t carrying the BK-7 on this trip I popped it in my pocket.

Here’s the contents spread out.

Starflash Mirror
Sparklite and 4 tinders
Firestraw
Needle and #4 waxed line
Compass
Inova LED
Braded #4 waxed line neck cord
Scalpel blade
Moleskin
4 Waterproofed strike anywhere matches
Potassium Permanganate
Waterproofed salt packets

Normally in the BK-7 the Altoids tin portion doesn’t have to stand alone, the rest of the stuff is carried under ranger bands on the BK-7 sheath: 5 liter water bag, space blanket, paracord, ACR whistle, fishing kit (in handle scales), scale removal wrench, small sharpening stone, more matches and fire straws, 3 birthday candles, small SAK w/o scales, ranger bands, copper wire, and a flat of 30 chlorine tablets. J,

That is a cheap, imported Chinese compass that they sell here as a keychain. The keychain attachment religiously attracts the compass needle, I guess so you never loose your keys. I pull that part off and use them as neck hangers. They all have that irritating little bubble but they are accurate and if you use the neck cord stretched out you can take an accurate sighting. I have very similar items the pouches of my bk7 and bk9 and well all my beckers! The ones that don't have pouches and a few other non beckers have pouches lashed to the sheaths.
