Myal, a question...

looks like a stockmans belt.
as seen here
and here
It's an Aussie thing as far as I know, they're made to fit a two or three blade stockman folder. Hope this helps a bit. I'm sure Myal will tell ya, though I think he's off on school holidays for two weeks of camping with the kids.

Bigfoot,

Thank you. I don't believe I've seen those before, I was assuming that it was custom made, are they common down there?

Doc,

You know what they say about great minds (although I'm not sure how it would apply to me..)....

Not super common, especially here in the city, much more common in the northern states and outback in the bush, but always available.
We have stockmen/stockwomen and jackaroos/jillaroos that work sheep and cattle stations and are still using horses(among other things) ( and hence the leather-work), a lot of the traditional gear is still available through bush outfitters.

Slightly Random fact about Oz.

Our largest cattle station is Anna Creek Station is the world's largest working cattle station. It is located in South Australia. Its area is roughly 24,000 km or 9,264 Sq. miles or 6,000,000 acres or 242,811.4 Ha or 28,703,761,152 Sq. yards) which is bigger than Israel.
Despite its size, in 2007 Anna Creek Station was carrying only 3,000 head of cattle due to the drought which started back in 2001.

i can shed some light on the belt the horizont al sheath is so because it doesnt dig into you as a vertical one might when you are in the saddle all day and the extra square brass ring on some belts enables you to turn the belt into a set of hobbles for the horse so it doesnt roam too far when nature calls (you not the horse i mean )

Thanks for all the info. I definitely think I need one of these belts.. I wonder if anything is available in the US...

Codger - Thanks. I had trouble with the link, but I found the belt... I'm thinking a brown one maybe...

BTW - Take a look at "Today's Hike" thread, Doc was baiting you...
