The idea is simple. Move your body. Get fitter.

Between the dates of August 1 and August 31, the challenge is to earn 50 Becker Points. Points can be earned in the following fashion:

old version:
1 mile (1.6 km) on foot = 1 Becker Point
4 miles (6.4 km) road cycling = 1 Becker Point
2 miles (3.2 km) mountain biking = 1 Becker Point
1 mile (1.6 km) swimming = 6 Becker Points

updated version:
1 mile (1.6 km) on foot = 1 Becker Point
3 miles (4.8 km) road cycling = 1 Becker Point
2 miles (3.2 km) mountain biking = 1 Becker Point
1 mile (1.6 km) swimming = 4 Becker Points

If you just do one thing, you'll need to hoof it 50 miles, or road bike 150 (new (was 200 miles)), or mountain bike 100 miles, or swim 12.50 miles (new (was 8.3 miles)). You may combine items to build toward 50 Becker Points in any fashion you choose. Honor system in play.
This thread will be the place where people report in on their progress.
So.....get your arse - erm, bum moving and enjoy those callouses!

I'll start this month with a 33 mile ride this morning. Beautiful day.

11 BP to kick off the month!

Walking the neighborhood.

2.7 miles yesterday. 1.9 miles tonight.

2.7 + 1.9 = 4.6 BP's

I'm gonna try and be much more regular in moving my butt. Hopefully I'll be good about checking in here for the accountability. I've got a friend who went from the couch to moving at least 1 mile every day for over a year - sometimes walking, sometimes running, sometimes cycling. If I can make it through August logging at least 1 mile per day, I might take a try at a year.

I went to Mt Rainier NP over the weekend, starting on the 1st I did a net total of 4 miles (1.4 + 1.2 + 0.4 + 0.6 + 0.4 + 0.2) of hiking to various trails in, around, and between Paradise and Ohanapecosh. Not any very long trails, but scenic. (side note: it hit 100 degrees F in the campground we were staying at, sweltering)

hope the pictures look good, had to get a selfie to prove I was the one taking them.

I was moving all weekend. Back and forth, back and forth, picking up and transporting boxes.
Got in six miles of this on Saturday, and another 5 on Sunday.
11 BPs to start.
My back hurts...

Got out the old 1990 Giant Rincon hard frame mountain(ish) bike and road 3.6 miles (in the neighborhood). Found a lot of muscles not being used much - and that the old saddle isn't quite a comfortable as I remember.

Is there a decisive formula for a mountain bike ridden on the road? I'm going to call it 1.5 Becker Points for the night and 3 days of moving my butt in a row.

4.6 + 1.5 = 6.1 BPs

pretty sure the difference between road riding and mountain biking is the terrain ridden on, not the bike being ridden. Good try, though. More biking than I've done so far this month...

Rode this morning, predictions of rain notwithstanding....they came true in earnest about 25 miles into a 33 mile ride. Take a couple days for my shoes to dry out.

11 + 11 = 22 BP.

Dunk - I don't care how you calculate your points. Just good on you for M-Y-B!!

I walk a lot for work, and do HIIT workouts and sometimes BJJ, but I need more cardio. Maybe this will be a good motivator.

Rode another 4.4 miles tonight. Those muscle groups weren't any happier this evening but that will (should) change in time. I'm calling it 1.5 BP's

25 years ago when I used to ride all over this town as a student, one day I found I could hop up a curb when a van quickly passed me and turned right in front of me. I hope I could still do that in a life or death situation. Tonight while riding I rode a bit on the sidewalk just for fun and when something rustled at my feet in the grass, I found that I can still successfully dismount a curb at least.

6.1 + 1.5 = 7.6 BPs.
Butt moved for four consecutive days.

2.5 miles walked.

7.6 + 2.5 = 10.1 BPs
Five days in a row.

1.5 miles walked with low enthusiasm, but I got it done. Probably should have waited for the sun to go down. Probably need to go early in the morning's for a while. It's 98 as the sun sets and temps are only predicted to climb over the weekend.

10.1 + 1.5 = 11.6 BPs
Six days continuous.

I don't have any activities I'm able to log, school and work combined means only weekends are even possible to fit anything in, getting home near 11pm on just about all weekdays. Thankfully school finishes up next week, then I'll start racking up the points.

Rode 5.1 miles this morning. I've decided to split the difference on the points. The mountain bike certainly doesn't roll as easily as the street bike, but riding it on the road certainly isn't riding it on a trail. I'm calling it 2.5 pits.

11.6 + 2.5 = 14.1 BPs

Walked 2.5 miles tonight.

14.1+2.5 = 16.6 BPs

MMB for 8 days in a row

nearly 40 mile ride this am. windy as hell....super fast going south but coming back north was like going the wrong direction in a wind tunnel.

13+22=35 BP.
