The idea is simple. Move your body. Get fitter.

Between the dates of June 1 and June 30, the challenge is to earn 50 Becker Points. Points can be earned in the following fashion:

old version:
1 mile (1.6 km) on foot = 1 Becker Point
4 miles (6.4 km) road cycling = 1 Becker Point
2 miles (3.2 km) mountain biking = 1 Becker Point
1 mile (1.6 km) swimming = 6 Becker Points

updated version:
1 mile (1.6 km) on foot = 1 Becker Point
3 miles (4.8 km) road cycling = 1 Becker Point
2 miles (3.2 km) mountain biking = 1 Becker Point
1 mile (1.6 km) swimming = 4 Becker Points

If you just do one thing, you'll need to hoof it 50 miles, or road bike 150 (new (was 200 miles)), or mountain bike 100 miles, or swim 12.50 miles (new (was 8.3 miles)). But you can combine items to build toward 50 Becker Points in any fashion you choose. Honor system in play.
This thread will be the place where people report in on their progress.

I haven't done the MYB challenge in a while, but found it encouraging when I did. Since no one else started June, I figured I would.

1.9 mile walk in the neighborhood = 1.9 BP's

Fixed it for you, I think.
Thanks for taking the initiative!

3.5 miles walked on Monday.
1 mile Tuesday.
2.5 miles walked tonight.

7 BPs to get June rolling.

1600m swim last night.

6 points to start. I know the points don't count, but I think they should be more in line with the real world. I would suggest leaving miles on foot alone, but bumping up bike points to 1 per 3 miles ridden and reducing swim points to 4 per mile (1.6 km). What say you, participants? This means for each activity (aside from running) points would align at approximately 4 points per hour of a given activity, on average. YMMV, of course....but it seems a lot closer to real world averages and aerobic activities.

Hmm. Maybe.
You're certainly right about the times - I usually walk just over 3.5 miles in an hour, and biking at 12mph (road avg) nets me 4 pts in 1 hr. Takes me about 50 min to swim a mile.
I guess I'm game - but swimming being "more" encourages me to do it - though I still don't often get to.

So I better get this in before the change!

3 miles walk today,
and 1 mile swim (before I read your suggestion!)

8.5 + 9 - 17.5 BPs to date.

Walking is about all I do. I might get in some biking at some point, but I couldn't swim for an hour for anything. And if I ever swim 1 mile, I'm giving myself the 50 BPs for escaping the shark that was chasing me regardless of what the rules are. So I'm good with the changes.

1.8 miles walking tonight.

1.9 + 1.8 = 3.7 BPs

Ha! I swim a lot faster than that, so I'm taking away points from myself....but it seems skewed incorrectly that I could ride at 17-18 mph and be out for 1:30 and earn the same points as I can in the pool in less than 45 minutes. The runners should still get the max points/hr, but that seems fine as I don't run (anymore, :() like a lot of people don't swim. So I'll consider this a "yes" vote from the both of you; since it seems like we're the only participants anymore (ahem, Biscuit....and others) I think we should just go ahead and change it. DunkEm, if you could be so kind as to amend the rules/points scheme in your OP? ....mmmm, that'd be greaat.

This is a great thread and kudos to you guys for keeping it going. We don't bike or swim much but spend six hours a week in the gym and box two or three times a week (just for fun/fitness). I'm a firm believer in keeping moving too and support and appreciate this thread.

Ok. I think my math was correct, but please check it to make sure I understood.

Do we need to add a point system for boxing? 1 pt per round. 15 pts per TKO. 25 pts per KO? ;)

Imma downgrade this one using the new points system and add a 36 mile ride today

4 + 12 = 16 points for the month so far.

1.8 miles walking tonight.

1.9 + 1.8 = 3.7 BPs

1.9 walk tonight.

3.7 + 1.9 = 5.6 BPs
