The idea is simple. Move your body. Get fitter.

Between the dates of May 1 and May 31, the challenge is to earn 50 Becker Points. Points can be earned in the following fashion:

1 mile (1.6 km) on foot = 1 Becker Point
4 miles (6.4 km) road cycling = 1 Becker Point
2 miles (3.2 km) mountain biking = 1 Becker Point
1 mile (1.6 km) swimming = 6 Becker Points

If you just do one thing, you'll need to hoof it 50 miles, or road bike 200 miles, or mountain bike 100 miles, or swim 8.3 miles. But you can combine items to build toward 50 Becker Points in any fashion you choose. Honor system in play.
This thread will be the place where people report in on their progress.

Right after work on Friday, the girls had their school talent show. Lots of singing, dancing, and jumping around - but none of it by me.

Saturday afternoon, 2.5 mile walk.
Saturday evening, 4 mile walk.
Sunday evening, 2 mile walk.

8.5 BPs to kick off May.

1 hour volleyball. Only 3 on our team showed. Sweated for an hour straight. Doesn't count for a thing!

1 mile run alternated with 1 mile walk. 2 Points.

10.5 BPs so far.

Count it anyway....I mean, points are really made up here anyway. It takes me nearly two hours to earn on the bike what I can earn in less than 45 min. in the pool. So....I'd say 6 points for the hour of aerobic activity. You butt was movin', right?

OK. Moving Sunday's 34 mile ride to this month, where it belongs. Also did 1600m in the pool last night. Haven't been there in a while.

8.5+6=14.5 to start May. Headed out the door in a bit for a ride.

Really though, I should look around for a good deal on a bike. As hilly as my whole neighborhood is, I think a mile really should count as 2 or 2.5...

Another 34 mile ride today. Wind was blowing in every direction, it seemed, except at my back.....still nice to see the sun and with reasonably warm temps. At the turnaround:

Looks inviting, doesn't it? Lotsa people at the beaches, but don't let this pic fool ya. Air temp: 65°(ish), water temp: 45°. No one was in, not surprisingly. Even dippin' your toes is painfully cold.

8.5+14.5=23 BP for the first week.

Was down at Pismo Beach a couple weeks ago. Was in the 70's, and they said water temp was 50. Felt like 42. Painfully cold until you go numb. Still fun - daughter wanted to try the boogie board, so we were out there about 20 minutes. Brrr.

1 mile walk tonight.

11.5 BPs so far.

Glad to see you guys are keeping it going! I haven't been on the forums in a while now, but I am still working out 5 days a week.. I have lost 112 pounds so far, almost 2 years at it now.

Keep up the great work everyone! take care..

:D

That is awesome, Lee! Good to see you around. If I could lose a quarter of that I'd be damn happy.

Seriously windy ride again today. Wind at my back, hit over 35 MPH on a flat road. Wind in my face, had to pedal just to keep moving forward down hill.
26 miles.
6.5+23=29.5

I want to be in on this as well, What are the Becker points good for?

Road bike 18 miles =4.5 points
Mountain Bike 19 miles=9 points

Total so far 13.5

Welcome back, Lee! That's amazing!

jfondell - mostly, they're good for your health!

1 mile walk, and 1 run, tonight.

13.5 BPs TTD.

3-mile walk with Murphy (the dog, not Murphnuge lol) daily (always walk the terrier...) and 9 days of 3-1/2 mile runs.
Yeesh. 61.5 BP's.
Funny, though, how my goal for the runs has gone from "always go faster" to "finish, and don't die" in about a two year span.

Welcome to the thread, J W. Awesome start to the month!

Volleyball tonight and a 2.5 mile walk.
16 BPs so far.

Good on ya, Jim!

Got in a 32 mile ride today. Tired legs.

8+29.5=37.5

Finally rode again today. Then mowed the lawn, which made me sweatier than the 36 mile ride (we have hills to mow)!

9+37.5=46.5

Gotta start trying to do something daily.....twice a week riding the bike (even given the distance) is not taking off any poundage.

Tough to get out there every day.
Late night at work; catching up on neglected yardwork; school fundraiser; piano recitals; guests over for dinner.
Tried to get a swim in yesterday, but just 200yds in my 10 year old bruised her knee jumping in to the shallow end (diving for footballs or some such.) Then, after she was repaired, the little one needed a new swim/play partner.
Volleyball tonight. Staying up too late just to get 1 mile in - 1/2 walk, 1/2 run.

23.5 BPs to date.
