[h=2]MYB September - where the points, well....only matter to you.[/h]
The idea is simple. Move your body. Get fitter.

Between the dates of August 1 and August 31, the challenge is to earn 50 Becker Points. Points can be earned in the following fashion:

old version:
1 mile (1.6 km) on foot = 1 Becker Point
4 miles (6.4 km) road cycling = 1 Becker Point
2 miles (3.2 km) mountain biking = 1 Becker Point
1 mile (1.6 km) swimming = 6 Becker Points

updated version:
1 mile (1.6 km) on foot = 1 Becker Point
3 miles (4.8 km) road cycling = 1 Becker Point
2 miles (3.2 km) mountain biking = 1 Becker Point
1 mile (1.6 km) swimming = 4 Becker Points

If you just do one thing, you'll need to hoof it 50 miles, or road bike 150 (new (was 200 miles)), or mountain bike 100 miles, or swim 12.50 miles (new (was 8.3 miles)). You may combine items to build toward 50 Becker Points in any fashion you choose. Honor system in play.
This thread will be the place where people report in on their progress.
So.....get your arse - erm, bum moving and enjoy those callouses!

Time to get moving.
Starting off September with a 36 mile ride yesterday. Absolutely gorgeous weather.

12 BP to start off.

A friend invited me to hike the 4 highest peaks in Texas the week after Easter.

I better get more serious about moving my butt. Maybe even lose 50+ pounds. And find some hills to go up and down.

2.8 miles walking tonight. A bit faster pace than previous walks. Still hot and humid. Supposedly a cold front coming later in the week. Might only have highs in the mid to upper 80's. Winter is coming.

2.8 BPs

Well, there was a weights thread....I don't recall the name of it, but it hasn't been seen lately. The MYB thread is specifically for aerobic activities.

It was the Weights and Fitness Challenge. I haven't seen it since 2014:

I fianlly got moved in to the new house. Still working on getting boxes out of the garage, but it's tough when the house was never emptied to begin with.
But after 4 in a row, I think I finally went 2 weekends without a trip to U-Haul or the dump.
And I've managed to spend some time walking instead of unboxing...

2.5 miles on the 3rd,
2.5 miles Monday,
2 miles yesterday.

I still have some catching up to do.
7 BPs so far for September.

Did another 35 miler in the heat on Tuesday (8th). Too bad the fat won't ACTUALLY melt off.

23.6+11.6= 35.2

If it would actually melt off with the heat, I'd be a skeleton. Though honestly, not so much from this summer - but past summers...bones only.

Figuring out the new neigborhood.
1.75 miles walked last night.
8.75 BPs so far.
It's darn late but too hot to sleep, so I may just try another route here in a bit.

Yep.
2.25 miles tonight. And saw two good-size black-tail bucks. Just because I didn't see any mountain lions doesn't mean they weren't out there...

11 BPs TTD.

Thinking about throwing down a GAW prize for our MYB/Fitness regulars. Mentioned details in the Snark thread. If there's enough interest, I'll make it happen.

Walked 8 miles yesterday, back and forth, transporting and emptying boxes.
Did 5 more of the same today.
Anyone know any good lower-back exercises?

11 + 8 + 5 = 24 BPs so far.

Hyperextensions (sounds worse than it is) are my favorite, they're like backwards crunches. Stiff-legged Good Mornings are also good ones, with or without barbells.

Here's September so far. 32 BP.

Forgot to add the ride I did this past Tuesday (15th). 34 miles.

11.3+35.2=46.5

Rode a near 40 miler in very nice (if a bit windy) weather today. Unfortunately, people in cars are frequently a-holes to people on bicycles, and I had more than my fair share today. Flipped off, honked at, yelled at through open windows......because people don't know the law (bicycles are vehicles and obligated to ride in the road; motorists have to allow 3' when passing (at 30 mph - 4' at 40 mph and 5' @ 50 mph) only if it safe to do so....) and a lot of them think that cyclists should yield right of way to them. I hit a 20 mph corner at nearly 30 mph and the idiot behind me was honking at me to get out of the way.

OK, sorry for the venting.

13+46.5=59.5 BP ttd.

got about 40 miles on foot this month so far. just normal walking and chores.

we'll see about upping that for actual "exercise"

1.5 mile walk tonight.

17 BPs so far.

Sorry you had so much trouble Mike. Sadly, that's the reason I don't have a road bike and normally hit the trails when I cycle. But it's too bad we can't manage to share the road. Would make things better for everyone - and I'd feel a lot better about letting my girls bike to school.
