Mycelium to meet ya!

Thats a fly amanita if it has gills. 😁 They ummm are magic.
Yes sir- tons of them at my property. If I had to spend 7 months in a snow covered burrow, I might start to like them too🤣.

A while back, I set 6 different types of mushrooms out for the squirrels, and those were the one’s they took first. There are some they don’t like at all. They don’t eat Alcohol Inky (Coprinus atramentarius), which I assumed they would.

What's the best way to prepare chanterelles? Brown them in a skillet with salt and butter? Or are there better ways?

I dry sautee them, (med heat in a pan til most of the water boils out, which my pic is of) and put them in serving size ziplocs and in the freezer. I put them in anything that calls for mushrooms; pasta sauce, stew, chili, pizza, soup, omelettes, etc. They defrost pretty quick. Better make sure to label them, they're only good in the freezer for 6 months or so.

Awesome! I just looked it up and these are supposed to be common in my region. I've never seen any, but I'll be looking now.

I love them, they're hard to mis identify. The gill type structure is actually a layer you can peel off, and if you break one down the length of its stem, it's like cheese string. The golden ones I've been finding have kind of an apricot smell. The spores are kind of white/lavender.

If you find some and aren't sure, feel free to drop me a line- but always get a second opinion!

I'll second the second opinion - to me, they look nothing alike, but i see a fair amount of people that think they have chanterelles but actually found jacks (Omphalotus olearius) which you absolutely don't want to eat.
I don't freeze them, but dry sautee like Lorien said (get that water out!), then I'll add butter, maybe some garlic and or onion and eat them along side some meat or eggs.

we had a lot of rain through July, then it got dry. I haven't been out at all for a while and probably won't get out again until late october, but usually find a few while I'm out chasing deer.
