that's useful, I still regard Ivory as more fragile as scales based on a) older Ivory knives are invariably cracked b) thin panel Ivory was used due to cost. The outer solid tusk may well be tougher as it's dentine, literally enamel tooth. I think it's the pores v stripes thing though, the latter more often indicating Ivory.
