Mystery object

Is it brass? If so, I believe it’s a nail nick puller (made from brass so as to not scratch the steel blade). I actually just found one recently and sent it to Charlie waynorth waynorth . :)

Given that it is brass, maybe GEC practiced punching out that particular blade, when they first developed it, and didn't want to waste steel. Or someone did mistakenly put brass sheets under the punching press instead of a steel one...

I got one of those when I bought a knife from GEC earlier this month, and for the life of me I can’t find it anywhere. I think it’s just a token piece. Stamped with 2023- just a neat little trinket.

ETA: I found them- there are in fact two. Stamped blades. Kinda neat. You get to see a blade shape as it would go to be heat treated.

id say knife pick but the last time i received some they were in steel. i did receive some of these when i was there a rendezvous or two ago.

I could see an advantage in using brass for a blade pick (nail nick puller). With the much softer brass, there shouldn't be any issues with scratching or leaving rub marks on the blades when opening. And the brass should be cheap enough, they should be able to produce them without adding much to the overall cost. (And after posting this, I'm now seeing I missed a similar input from Fixall above.)

Neat item, whatever it may be.

I have the drop-point version of one of these, as well as the GEC tube popper and knife pick, which are quite different and made from steel. It looks to me simply like a test-blade stamped in brass meant as a memento or keepsake.

I talked to the Horse and found out they were meant as tube poppers. They actually sold poorly - (I think because they are shorter than the better steel poppers) - so GEC has been giving them out for free. I don't know how well they would work - or last - as knife picks, which are usually made of steel softer than blade steel, but give 'em a try!!
(From the Horse's mouth!!)
