I have an old die cast of the Raideen guy. He was made in the early 70's

I used to have all the 24" Shogun Warriors, now sadly disintegrated from years of sun exposure. They changed his name to Raydeen for the American release for some reason. Medicom Toys released an awesome version of Raideen a few years ago that actually transforms into God Bird mode. I used to have him at work, but he's at home now, with Ultraman and a few Evangelion and Trigun figures taking over guard duty on my desk :D If you ever decide to get rid of that diecast, let me know ;)

you know, Raijin and Fujin almost always appear together.

Yup, even Mortal Kombat eventually added a Fujin to partner up with its Raiden character.

My own sense is that garudas contributed to the appearance of tengu, but very little to their characterization. In India, garudas are noble, sacred beings. In Tibet and SEAsia, they're somewhat more bestial, while in Japan tengu are quite well defined behaviorally as mountain spirits. This behavior is quite different from anything we find with garudas, and is more in keeping with the animistic properties found with kami (Shinto gods, not to be confused with our esteemed khukuri makers!). I believe this was discussed at some length in that Japanese Ghosts and Demons book I mentioned earlier.

Hi Danny,

Must admit I have worked as a lecturer as yourself have or do, no wonder you spotted it!

nowadays I am just a counselor though.

In the past ive noticed your reactions to some others & there theorys , proof, ISBN numbers etc, etc. & I just was holding up a mirror up for you. ;)

I meant no offense , & I may have a brick in my eye, myself to paraphrase a christian.

I realised Tengu is not an Eagle but a Garuda is. Thats the difference.
