N.E.C.K.A. Hammer-In This Weekend

ray: how else??? he smothered it in peppers!

Ed: too bad you missed this one we had a hell of a time. J. will tell you the funny story about his rope cutting with the moving target. :D

The weather wasn't that good. But everything else was great. The best part of the day is when I brought my Sweetheart home from the hospital. :D My sardines didn't go over to well, I liked them but my taste buds are use to my relish.  I even cut through the rope with one of my fighting knives on the first try. Not like someone else I know I hate to mention any names so I'll just give you his initial J. :o :D :p

Hey Michael, How was the skunk? How'd IG fix it?

Glad to hear you had a good turn out and things went well!
Ray; Someone said it tasted like squirrel. Next time I get one I'll have to send it to that Ole tree rat eatter.

Howdy Y'all,

Definately a great time at the Hammer In. Lots of fun had by all.

IG gave me to sample, one of the main ingredients of his relish !!!! , ya know the cartoons where the eyes bug out of the head and the smoke/steam blowing out of the ears....well...I ate the whole thing !!!! .

I hope everyone got home safely and in a timely manner, ie Maine, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New York, etc.

IG, I put over 100 pics of the HI on CD, and also 120 or so pics of the Open House that you had last summer. I'll try to get it to you sometime this week.

Grasshoppa, don't worry got plenty of good pics of U

J. how could I forget the sheath for my blade, Tess, thanks so much, the stuff that you discard as not up to standard, works real well for my EDC :D .

Thanks to George, Mike, Paul and everyone else. I had a great time and learned some cool tips from some great guys. One of which being how I'm going to change/modify my next cutting comp. knife, along with bluing, different ways of etching full tangs, slip joints, etc. I'm glad everyone liked the wood and sheaths but hey, I think I left with more stuff than I came to give away. That's normal there though. Thanks again to everyone and Joe, I still owe you one for pulling the rope on me while cutting. :p

PS-Mike, Tess loves the honey you sent her. Thanks again.

Yea yea yea... you know i still love you man! George, thanks for the hospitality, and all brother! Great time had by all im sure... :D
and, J. don't forget the cinder block! :D

Hey I.G. thanks for hosting another great hammer-in. As always the comapny was great, lots of good info shared and new ideas for making up something sharp and pointy. FYI I picked up a rasp to try to forge into a hawk as shown by J. Nielson. Great demo on that , cant wait to give it a shot. P.S. I thought the sardines were delicious, they'd be just the ticket on saltines while watching the games today.

I'll take a picture and let you know how it comes out. I was going to send you a picture of it bend or broke, however it comes out anyway...I know you wanna see that! ;)

edited to add-
Jay, let us know how that come's out and if you need some handle wood, let me know.

B*tch & Moan, B*tch & Moan... :D

Thanks again for the great time George. The soup was great! Give Helen a hug and tell her we said Hey!

IG, Got enough tree rats out here. Glad to hear Helen made it back home! I thought you were having a two day hammerin.....

yes thanks Mike for the honey, all your help, IG's food was great.
beer was good even though it was BUD. :D

hey who cut the most cans hehehe
one inch deeper and it would have been 7 in stead of 5
but I'll blame it on my blade only being 8 1/2" :(
how did the rope contest come out?
mace and I were tied right?
Lamont won the 2x4 chop great comp guy's
Mace $150.00 :D

Thanks Guys for the great turn out

yeha i can't wait to see the pics. no problem guys. i wish i had more bottled to hand out but thats all i could find. there'll be more the next time.
hey IG those sardines were good by my book. not as hot as those smoke habaneros but still had some good kick. thanks again for the hammer-in IG. and all those who helped fill in on demos.

Thanks George it was a great day....
Finaly got to make some damascus :D I've been carrying a chunck of it around with me all day....Can't wait to make something with it. Thanks Mike for helping me with that last piece. Now I'm gonna have to build a press!
Regarding the cutting contest: I think Lamonts 2x4 was Balsa...what was the count on that? 11 chops? I think Dan should do a sharpening demo next time....I know one guy in the contest who would like to have seen it this year....I didn't quite get a name but I think his first initial was J.(His knife was sharp but I think he was just tired) :D
Yes Dan's knife was sharp...how many cans did you cut...5?

The skunk wasn't bad as long as you dumped some relish on it.

Dan, $150.00 sounds good! Just send a check. :D
Mace

Ok, that's two smacks. We'll see what happens next time. I'm looking forward to it.

Thanks Mace for the slipjoint tips. Looking forward to the patterns.

IG, as always, thanks for hosting the HI. Mike, you did an outstanding job with the logistics. :D

Now, after hearing how good they were, I guess I should have tried the sardines.

Dan, I'll get the CD of the pics out in the mail today.

Yup, looks like I missed another good one. :grumpy:

I apologized to IG, now I'll make it public. I'm sorry I missed it. There are so many of you here that went I still have not met and I really want to, but my house has just gotten ahold of me and with winter nearly hear I was feeling very guilty about going to the hammerin.

All week long, I was trying to put roadblocks in front of me for reasons not to go. Saturday morning when I woke up, I told my wife I needed her to talk me out of going. She was very supportive and really said I should go and be with friends for a day, and that maybe coming back I'd have energy and renewed spirit to tackle the house with high spirits. I told her I was dreading the ride and all the time lost that could be spent on finishing the siding. She did agree and said I could use her as an excuse. I can't do that. The woman is a saint.

So here I am telling you guys my lame excuses, and lame they are indeed. In the end, my house will be worth around 65% more than it was this spring, but it hasn't come without a severe cost: my knifemaking. I hope some of you fellas can learn from my mistakes. Never bite off more than you can chew, because it'll eventually come back to bite you on the ass.

thanks Larry I'll be looking for it..:D
Mace it was 5 should have been 7, it did cut through them just didn't get the back side of them..

thinking about it now I think they rolled off the tip pushing them out
teach me to have a short blade )OK IG your Q, time to tell me.. :p )

I'm not sure I told you but I ground that knife with a progressive
three way grind, it starts at the ricarso flat into and slight hollow
(8" wheel progressing from vertical to horizonal)
to a convex around the tip..
all done on the 8" wheel.
yeahup just send a check,,, well maybe not,, I think you just want to destroy the evidence :p :D

oh yeah ,, IG looooved that Porto-Potie because it had a stick-shift,, I think he said he was trading the Indian in for it ,,, :p :D

Dan: The stick shift was to flush it not to SIT ON IT. The Dude just pickup the john and want to know what was them red hairs doing around the flusher??? I had to explain that I had a few guys from Maine at the HI and he said OH!!! Know wonder. :p  :D

IG don't go blaming that one on me,, you're color blind.. it was greasy after you used it last.
Mike said they had a hard time
keeping you out of it before we got there.and said you had a funny looking smile on you're face when you came out .,.
now the poor lad knows  :p
