My first Sebenza was the large NICA tanto, and I love it. It is decorated and marked "Limited 400." Because of this I decided to minimize its time in my pocket due to its possible collectability, and got a small sebenza. When the small NICA sebenza came out, I got one of those too. It is identical to the large one. Nifty as can be. Does anyone have any feeling about the NICA sebenzas? Does anyone else have one and also love it (or hate it)? I heard a rumor that Chris Reeve isn't particularly thrilled with tanto blades. If this is the case, why make one, unless this is false?

Jakabuto,

Been carrying my large NICA 400 for about a year now everyday on duty. I keep it in a belt sheath to minimize marks but I figure that when I retire I can send it back to CRK and have it refurbished to like new condition.

I didn't pay that much money for it to sit in a draw at home. Use it, you will be glad you did.

I have a small NICA tanto left hand version. I like it very much and you can use it and scratch it up and send it back to CRK to make it brand new for a small fee. I don't carry it much because of the collectability of it but also I don't like the tanto blade as much as the spear point. It's a very nice knife and I will keep it for a long time. IMHO much nicer than anything Emerson ever put out. I had the large left hand tanto but it is too much knife for my liking and traded it as partial payment for a custom knife. Great knives, great company!

Recoil, Brave man to be carrying a CRK while OTJ (You said "on duty" and your address says NY so you should know what OTJ means). Anyway, I could NEVER take the chance of possibly losing it while on duty (I'm OTJ, too). It would break my heart. I stick to my BM large Mel Pardue Auto and MOD Razorback, and stick to all my other "nicer" knives for off-duty carry. Take care and stay sharp.

Chris is an intensely practical person and he feels that the Tanto style blade is not as good an all round blade as the general purpose drop point style on the Sebenza. That's not to say it is bad or that he doesn't like the style - it has only to do with practical application.
