got my two n.i.c.k.'s today, and first thing i noticed was that they were smaller then i thought they would be (my last purchases were a 26.5" ang khola, and a 1/4" SH badger attack  ), and then the serial numbers.

i recal there being something said to the effect of, if you order two nicks, you will be sure to get the first one as long as there are enough made to fill all the orders. after teh single knife orders are made, your second, third, fourth or however many you ordered will then be given to you. basically, you dont get to go back for seconds until everyone in line has gotten at least one plate of food.

but it appears that somewhere in the 3-5 seconds it took me to press send when the offer appeard 5 other people got their orders in first :(

oh well.... i got #6 and #161

they are fully chisel ground, and are quite thin near the edge. basically, a well executed kitchen knife

still dont like the 3rd gen handles  but they work well for this knife, allowing a lot of side to side action with the blade (sweeping food away etc)

the fit and finish is a little wobbly in the fine details - but its a user, so none of the cosmetic flaws really mean anything.

basically - its exactly what i expected, a kitchen knife made of infi with the busse logo :D.

i only have one real complaint about it though.

I WANT TO MODIFY ONE OF THEM SOOOOOO BAD!!!!!

it seems like it would be so easy to grind the edge into a curve to make it into the normal chefs knife shape, removing the sentaku tip.....

the comparison shot of the flat sides = 18" ang khola (HI), 2 NICKS, and a battle mistress ergo

the spine shots = 1/4" SHBA and NICK

More pics? Ummm, do you not have your prototype yet? With the standard production run being shipped I think we all assumed the proto had already made it's way into your hands.....

Oh wait a minute my bad....I forgot theres a backlog on prototypes. No worries man you'll have it in two weeks just after Christmas....

first pic - self explanatory

second pic - note, smooooth as a babies bottom (grind wise anyways :) )

third pic of what i would call an agressively thin tip (as far as busses go... and any other knife for that matter). now, macro shots can be deciving, you may think, that doesnt look so thin... pick up a penny, and cut it in half, and thats how thin the tip area is.

fourth pic - note the full chisel grinding aperant in the choil area :)

fifth pic - smooth handle to dang fit.... good stuff

the corner near the choil area is excellent for coring purposes (onions, tomatos etc....). also works great as a pasta strainer, because the both ends of the blade are below the handle, so you dont have the thread of searing hot water running across your fingers...

right now, im not in any kind of financial position to buy anything other then gas to get to work, so selling one of them is definitely a nagging option (wich is kind of why i bought 2)....

when i look at them, i think of how much one of them would sell for, why i wont need two, etc etc etc....

but then i start to use them, just general stuff, spreading peanut butter, chop an onion, cutting lettuce... i think "no way im letting that other one leave my possesion... aint no way..." the real bueaty of these is in their use.

i need to make a sheath for them though... to thin for the tactical cardboard route - i dont trust anything this inherently sharp to be outside of kydex/rubber.

it would make a killer edc cutter if you modified the blade shape a little...

am i still the only one

ive got a couple of really nice kydex designs for this sans belt carry (since its kitchen use... though it would make a hell of a belt carry knife). thinking of it... if busse combat ever puts out a wide blade designed 3/32" thick knife, something SHBA size, or a longer 3rd gen badger, or a natural outlaw... id definitely buy it. carry it, along with my 1/4 badger and id be ready to go out on the town...

edge only (double snap strap retention), full display sheath, tip and edge single snap strap... since its iether going to be hung from a hook, or put in a drawer, it opens up design possibilities for what part to cover, and how much....

totally off topic comment - but man... this sierra nevada bigfoot barleywine style ale is DELICIOUS beyond imagination....
*2004 edition*

i think im going to need to buy more kydex...

My two NICKs (regular and XXL) arrived on the 8th, just minutes before I was leaving on vacation. I have not had a chance to use or take photos of them yet, but they are sweet.

how does that xxxl handle compared to the regular nick? is the edge fairly thin? how thick is????? :D

i really wish i had bought one (i would be paying it off for another month right now if i had, but i cant help but feel that it would be worth it)

I measured the large NICK at .220 and, unlike the thin NICK, it has a zero grind. My only "NIt-piCK" with the knives is that the handles are not alike. If they were both the same, they would have the look of a matched set.

Thanks for the pics Greg. I wish I could make those comparisons in person. But no NICKS for me yet. :D

Very cool! The XXXNICK looks like it may end up on camp duty, and that's probably why it got the canvas instead of paper micarta. As for me, I'm surely going to get a sturdy outdoor sheath made for my XXX.;)
