"Pagan"...really? I thought this was a photoshopped joke when I saw the thread. Is it April 1? Maybe BM is going full corporate on us. Why not Slayer or some other late 80s metal evocative name.

I like the looks of it. I could do without the Pagan on the clip. If you purchase this type knife looking for a good slicer I think you may be missing the point (no pun intended). This type of knife really only has two purposes collecting and stabbing.

It's part of Benchmade's new anti-religion line of knives. "Infidel" and "Pagan" are the only two out now. But in the future there will be the "Heretic", "Blasphemer", and "Apostate". :D

I don't understand the point of it... seems like the infidel... only the infidel was way cooler looking.

As I've just acquired a Infidel, I think the pagan looks strikingly similar. The one worry I had while playing with my infidel was my hand slipping if I was to stab something with it. The high ridges seem to bolster quite well to your hand. But, I don't see the same grip surface on the pagan design, and the switch doesn't look half as ridged.
It is an attractive design, and the black on black except for the clip is awesome. But, why try to over pimp such a affective and attractive design.
And considering the design is NOT on the benchmade site makes you wonder.

what bothers me is they have a COMPLETELY lazy approach to designing their OTF line. That knife has a nearly identical footprint to the infidel. They did the same thing with the Turmoil/tumult. Talk about a lack of creativity. I understand they may be limited if trying to build on an existing platform of internal structure but this doesnt even warrant a name change. At best its an infidel II. Here is hoping they did something to fix the baby rattle blade slop. The blade to handle ratio I can excuse as there is so much you can do around the internals of an otf. You will either have it look oversized like the infidel or boxy like the ultra. It seems you can only get a sexy OTF in a custom.

Yep... According to BM's website, this knife doesn't exist. There is however, a 14808 H&K Turmolt that is very similar.

They built it and it exists, they just haven't heard about it yet.

Looks like a recycled Infidel is about all, with the tactical milling on the new Strykers.

I actually like it. I found the Infidels to be ugly as sin... pardon the pun.

This is like the Madden NFL video game of knives, the same thing in a new year with a different name and people will buy it anyway.

I like. Looking forward to the Limited Edition Benchmade Atheist. :D

Really not sure what they are thinking with this one.

Ugly - while beauty is in the eye of the beholder, the blade just looks way too small for the handle and the grooves cut into the handle and deployment button look like something you'd find on overseas produced clones or novelty knives.

Chisel ground spear point - Considering the very small blade width, either the blade has thin stock, or it's going to be a bad slicer. I just can't get why this was made as a chisel ground spear point. Is it supposed to be tactical?

Tasteless pocket clip - That's not something I am going to put in my pocket and I don't think even a teenager would. At least "Infidel" rolls off the tongue nicely. "Pagan" does not.

Zero handle traction - No side grooves or jimping, completely slick backside, and those grooves cut into the presentation side of the chassis will have no traction whatsoever. This knife is going to slip out of my hand and considering the lack of a choil or deep finger grooves it could be dangerous to use without extensive modifications to the handle to give it traction.

Deployment button - This knife lacks the best feature of the Infidel which was its extremely well designed deployment button. This one looks like it will have risk of slippage, which will be exacerbated by the complete lack of traction on the chassis.

$420 MSRP - This knife will retail at around $360. At that price I don't see this knife competing with other front-opening knives available on the market or even other front-openers available from Benchmade. I feel like this won't do well on the secondary market either. I hate to mention the Infidel again, but consider that people struggle to sell brand new full-size Infidels for $250 these days. The Infidel's MSRP is $485.

Benchmade has already proven that they can produce a very good front-opening knife at a competitive cost. The HK 14808 is a very well-designed knife that is superior to the Microtech Ultratech in many regards and is cheaper than the Ultratech from many retailers. The Infidel was a little expensive but by many accounts it was a good design that had some features you couldn't find in knives by Microtech, Protech etc. It puzzles me why they would release a knife such as this one in 2015.

Blade has to be smaller than the handle, if you open up an Infidel it has an extension at the end in order to house a piece of the locking mechanism so the blade remains in the handle, since the internals are the same in the Pagan according to Benchmade at Shot Show, this is also the case for the Pagan.

Excellent slicer, chisel ground does fine when cutting cardboard, flesh, etc, I used it hunting this past June-August, but not for fine detailed work.

The button's traction is all I need, I don't even use the reverse gipping on the portion of the handle opposite of the clip, you'll do fine with it. I would also say that the way the button is stepped in the Pagan would probably be equally as effective as the infidel's button granted that the steps are sharp. Out of my two Infidels, one has a sharp button and one has sharp jimping on the edge of the handle surrounding the button but the button is slicker. A sharp button preferred with minimal traction from other components of the knife which is what is on the Pagan.

If you own OTFs and you use them for their tactical "purpose", the infidel is the best thing you can get your hands on. Microtechs are a joke excluding the Halo, out of the 20 microtechs I've tried at my local knife stores, their buttons are too small, inconsistent, and located on the portion of the handle which (for me) would be the hardest the stab anything with.
