Do you ever use or even feel the need for the nail nick on your 110 112 & 500
With the 055 and I guess 501 it's borderline, but I never use the nail nicks on my 110's or on my newly acquired 112.
Maybe if a hunter had bloody hands it could come in handy ?
I have knives where that nick just kind of adds a bit of grip when just pulling the blade open, but on my Bucks that's not really where I'm grabbing.

I'm a blade pincher myself. I appreciate the cosmetics of the nail nick on the 112's and 110's though. I've got the lifelong curse of being a bailbiter, makes opening 300 series blades a pain, except for the clip blades, which I can open without the use of my stub nails.

I don't even need the nail nick on my little 505 which surprised me, because I just wasn't even thinking about that and I'm used to all their other models with the same blade.
The 425 525 and 524 definitely need the nail nick.

Come to think of it I really don't need it on my 055 either.

Sometimes the MiniBuck nick is sunk too deep to use, and when I saw the Dremel job you did on your 425, I had to do it myself. Creating a easy open notch made it so much easier to deploy. The right one is still carried daily, but it's about time to retire it.

Yeah they are, the 524 Alumni and 525 gent are as well.
these days it doesn't bother me because I'm used to needing the nail nick on my slipjoints, but as a teenager I was not used to knives like this.

I use a 110 drop point in the kitchen and it's a lot easier to clean without the nail nick. Otherwise they don't bother me. But I am a pincher.

Personally, I only use the nail nick on small slip joints. I don't have any trouble pinching the spine of anything larger, including the 425 and it's cousins. Definitely not on a 112 or 110, although I don't mind them being there. On the larger blades, I tend to "thumb" them open with one hand. Two handed close, for safety.

For fast access, nothing beats a fixed blade. ;)

Hadn’t really thought about it before but I now realize that I too am mostly a blade pincher like many of you. Still happy to have the nail nick when I “thumb” the blade open, as mentioned by Midnight Rider.

Does the nail nick really help with that ?
Seems too far forward, but I'm a lefty anyways.

The nail nicks are needed for the Canadian market, since the thumb studs are considered "assisted" opening. But I never use the nail nicks except for the slip joints.

That piqued my curiosity, so I tried it with a 110, then a 112. I must be doing it wrong, because I can't get it to work. I guess I'm too used to the Spydy holes & thumb studs.
Anyway.....I don't ever remember using the nail nick on any of my 110s or 112s.

I think I remember reading that the nail nick on 112’s was added in response to customer feedback. That was a long time ago. Maybe this thread will be taken the same way.

I don't know why they ever added the nail nick to the 112. I prefer the clean, "classic" look. I have no trouble pinching open the 110, 112, 532, 501, 503, or 055.

I just tried it to thumb the blade open on my 112 and felt like I was in danger of loosing most of my fingertips.
I think if I wanted one handed deployment I'd try a quickdraw sheath or one of those flat rectangular thumb stud attachments.
Better yet just carry my 113 or 102.

(Disregard. Started to post a suggestion that I then thought better of because it's probably not safe!)

I pinch them open but on the nail nick area. I thought I didn’t need it but my old 112 I had to add a kwik thumb stud to because it was just a little too slippery to pinch open reliably and easily without a nail nick to grab onto. So yes I like them after all.
