Love the blue!!

That is cool Derrick. I got your e-mail today, and was just looking at the picture of it before I logged on here.
For some reason I thought those were bigger. I was surprised to see it is under 4 inches closed. Just a hair bigger than my favorite the Mini Grip

I was surprised to see that they are going to be a regular production knife. Very cool...

I'm confused a little. Why are they trying to drive this model so much?

I mean I know that SOME people really dig it, but really, this knife is certainly not what I would consider to be good looking.... Even with the cf it's still a pretty "meh" design IMO. Is it exceptionally ergonomic or something and everyone actually loves it, but I just haven't been keeping up with Benchmade enough to know that?

And why change steels to s90? Just to up the price even more when m390 was already an amazing steel? I get that it's kind of a tradition when they add the -1 to the end to switch to cf, blue hardware, and s90v......but still........

And why not do an upgraded grip instead? It's their best selling model, isn't it? Or better yet, they could do an "in between" line of grips and mini grips that are better quality than the standard production ones, but not quite at the "-1" level.......Like maybe doing them at around the 150-200 dollar range but with m390 and g10? I'm sure they would sell a TON of those:thumbup:

So IDK....... It just seems to me like this model will have a very niche market (people who liked the original and liked it enough that they can justify the added expense for the upgraded version). Whereas an upgraded grip line would likely have a much wider appeal.

Meh, whatever. Just my thoughts on the matter

I tend to agree. Why this model? It already came in M390. I'm sure there are more volume models that would benefit from the material upgrade such as the mini-grip, 530, 707, etc.
I too would like to know the motivation behind offering then 484-1. Did it sell much better than we/I know?

Somewhere there is a reason BM decided to upgrade this model...
I never really paid much attention to the original, but I'm a sucker for CF and blue hardware :D I'm just happy to see BM finally start offering more CF

I think Mike gave the answer as to why Benchmade gave this knife this treatment, and it was probably a good choice considering a lot of people have a renewed or first time interest in it. I have to admit, I didn't really have any interest in the original. But then to be perfectly honest, as much as I wanted to like the 940, as many times as I held one in store, I just couldn't bring myself to like it, let alone buy it. Then I held the 940-1 and I was smitten. I carry it daily and it is in my top 2 or 3 favorite knives. And I look forward to getting this one now because of it.

I have yet to handle a 484, but this version is tempting me off the bench. As far as why they chose to -1 bling out this model, I don't know and I don't care. As far as I am concerned, they can -1 every model they produce.

How bout a -1 Ritter grip with CF scales, blue standoffs and S90V? Count me in.

I'm with the rest here. The first one is nice as a small folder, but didn't push me enough to run to pick one up... this one I need
