Nalgene bottles

I never saw the attraction with Nalgene Bottles.

I always found camelbaks easier to carry and hold a 3 times more water

Yeha but I get strange looks from my co workers when I wear one all day around the office...

Of course they give me strange looks over everyday stuff too, like wearing my Ranger RD9 at work... :D

i personally think the risk is low-to-neglible and relative to the other toxins one is exposed to it seems like the concern is overblown

but i'm not surprised - guyot bottles have been sold out because they can't meet the demand of people choosing to switch to stainless steel over polycarb.

nalgene either had to change or see their market share evaporate - smart move on their part but it will probably only add to the hysteria

(that said, i use BPA-free bottles for my newborn son even though I drink out of Nalgene bottles myself - so I'm inconsistent :o)

EDIT: btw, anyone know a site that has Guyot standard bottles available?

Guyot keeps pushing back their availability date quoting import and qc issues. Nalgene is taking over distribution the beginning of May and now, interestingly enough, they won't be available until then.

Nalgene had something like 17 new materials at the OR show this year. MEC already banned polycarb and REI will in 2009.

The general concensus is that these fears are way overblown, but with big chains leading the way, almost everybody will be trying to find a new material for bottles and food gear. It is interesting to see the upheaval in the market from this though.

Yes, however the studies have shown that it would be more harmful to someone whos body was still developing. So for an adult the risk is much lower.

I wonder how long it'll be before someone decides that the new material, "Tritan™ copolyester," causes cancer or some such . . . .

I saw it and am hoping that they will reduce the price on them, so I can buy a few extra.
:)

I couldn't find them on the web, but my local Sportsman's Warehouse had a whole shelf full

Nalgene offers HDPE bottles in most of the same styles as their lexan ones. HDPE doesn't contain BPA.

The nalgene stainless is identical to the guyot bottles... I wonder if this will put guyot out of business?

I've seen a lot of pretty cool Guyot products lately. Have you seen their reversible bowls? A very interesting material - you can flip them inside out, crush them, whatever you want. They should be fine. Granted, I have no idea what % of their business is bottles.

The stainless bottles seem to be really common lately anyway.

All these bottles contain the substance that kills more people than any other substance in the world........water.

See, the thing is, whatever you do, you're going to die.

I think the gas prices of late will kill me before my water bottle does. Let's ban high gas prices.

I'm not sure, but I think the Guyot is made by the same company as Nalgene. If you go to nalgenechoice.com, they have a direct link to Guyot. I ordered some Guyot last week and they are backordered. I did see several a couple of months ago in the Sportsmans Warehouse store I happened to be in, but the store is 2 hours away and I don't want to drive down there for them. I was in the market for the Guyot anyway; I wanted something I could heat in a fire anyway.

I have two nose-miners of my own. I got rid of all the #3, #6 and #7 bottles, too, a couple of weeks ago. It may be a mass-hysteria, knee-jerk reaction, but for the little bit of money they cost me, I'd rather be on the safe side for my kids' sake.

I did find several of the Camelbak Tritan (BPA Free) bottles after doing so and replaced the old bottles with them. I can't really tell much difference in the plastic. Seems solid and sturdy. Actually, I think the Camelbak is a better bottle! I do miss the Nalgene small mouth that was my favorite though. Not finding any of the Tritan Nalgenes locally yet.

Nalgene distributing Guyot bottles? Huh? Link?
Stainless Nalgene? Huh? Link?
Inquiring minds want to know!
