What do you guys and gals think.Buying name brand knives with guaranteed warranty.I buy knives I like without guarantee.Other makers will make it good even for our kids.i use knives don't abuse them,I cut things, use an axe or saw for bigger stuff

Warranty is a plus in my book. All knives (steels) will wear over time. Sometimes the unexpected happens even with brand new blades. Getting companies to honor their warranty is another thing... but the one's who do I continue to buy from.

A good warranty is among the signs of a quality knife. To me, the better the warranty, the better the product, and the less of a chance I will need to use the warranty. So knives with a good warranty are the ones I buy.

And I don't abuse knives either.

This about covers what I was about to say in a more long-winded post. So I'll just  to this one.

Almost every knife I own has a warranty of some sort but I have never needed any warranty service.

It should be warranted for defects in manufacturing. That's it. I think the no questions asked warranties are silly. I have a dim view of people who thrash on their knives and then expect the maker to replace a broken one. Customers with more self respect pay for that in higher prices.

Typically, the greater the warranty, the greater is the brand's confidence in its product.

Fewer product failure, fewer warranty claims.

I think all the quality makers have warranties. The only ones that don't that I know of are the really cheap knives. I can see spending only 5 or 10 bucks on a non warrantied throw away knife. I've never done that myself but I've known a few who pick up cheap flea market knives to abuse and then throw away. If you spend 20 bucks on a non warrantied knife, your pretty much throwing 20 bucks away.

I have used warranties a few times before and have had great success. But this was from companies like Benchmade, and kershaw. I only try to buy quality brands with good warranties.

A good warranty is more than just getting something fixed if it breaks. A good warranty shows the company stand behind their product and has a vested interest in you keeping your fingers. Companies with no warranty don't care once they've got your money.

A lifetime warranty like bucks forever warranty is an awesome thing to have, but I haven't needed to warranty a knife yet so not having one isn't a deal breaker.

I came here to say this. After a knife arrives at the buyer's home in good condition it's up to the owner to take care of it and use it properly. Exceptions to this include an invisible fracture in the blade or bad heat treatments that only become evident with a little proper usage. I typically test a new knife with some reasonable usage just to make sure it's made correctly before I trust it, even from a reputable manufacturer.

Warranty is necessary at least for a brief time, but a no-questions lifetime warranty should not be expected. If a knife is heavily used and bends/breaks it's wear and tear, not defective workmanship.

I've had to use Benchmade, Pro Tech and Spydie warranty services.
All were excellent.......with a nod to BM.
Just picked up a NIB 470 off the bay......assisted open knife. Spring broken knife wouldn't open. Sent it in, with full disclosure, and had it back in 10 days with no charge.
Pro Tech & BM also offer blade swaps for a pretty low fee.
I WILL NOT buy any more Microtechs. Bought an LUDT and the spring broke in a week. Called and e mailed many times and am still waiting for a response.

I have used warranty service for Benchmade, Cold Steel, and KAI for a ZT, and my knives have all been made right in a timely fashion. It definitely affects where I am going to keep sending my knife budget. I carry Spydercos all the time, too, but have yet to need warranty service--also an important consideration, though I hear they can do good warranty service too.

warranty is definitely sth I consider when buying knives even if most of them would never need any warranty work.

Benchmades warranty is only reason I'm saving up for a benchmade if it weren't for warranty I'd feel they're overpriced

Exactly......

It's not just that they will fix it, it's that they stand behind what they make, and behind the people who buy what they make.

Any real company will take care of you well beyond the day you purchased their product...
