Okay, here's the deal, first one to name what this is used for (SPECIFICALLY used for, no generalities) wins something. Depends on the maker and what materials they need. It is a 1/4" round brass rod JB Welded to a slab of Micarta. The only caveat to participate you must have been a member of BladeForums for more than two months and actively participate in the BladeSmith Questions and Answers forum (sorry, my contest, my rules) :D

No, but it might work for that. I use a radius'ed end of another Micarta for that :D

Dang good idea! Hmm...have to remember that one, too, but no.

To all: Feel free to post more than one guess. If this isn't guessed by 10pm EST tonight, it goes to the closest guess!

*****HINT******
Louis in post #4 was the closest so far. I am specifically using this for a Japanese style Wakizashi.

Yes you get multiple guesses and no, not for grooves in handle material (yet another use, though!)

Dang, I made a really handy tool and had no idea (thus the reason for this contest)! :D But no, not for polishing filework, either.

Do you use it to sand the slotted thing that is sometimes near the spine on that style of sword?

The slotted thing? If you mean the Bo'Hi, blood groove or fuller (all three suffice along with slotted thing) then go mike wins! Email me you name and address and what you need for knife materials!
