Here are a few photos of a fresh one.

Carefully located on a 2’ high rock in the middle of a trail junction

This animal was marking its territory.

The knife in the second picture is 8.9” overall with a 4.5” blade.

My first thought was raccoon. They'll even crap on top of a fencepost to mark their territory.

Not sure though, if that's hair, raccoons don't hunt much.

I was thinking coyote, they usually do that to mark their boundries.

I was thinking coyote too but I happen across coyote scat almost daily when I go for my short lunch hour hikes behind work. From what I've seen, coyote tend to... ummm... drop a full load when they gotta go.

I'm coverd up with yotes down here too 'Ol Bud & I see sign of them everywhere, not all there scat is in larg piles:p around here anyway. some times it's just enough to mark the trail:D Guess it's all they could muster up :p
I'm not saying that YES it's Coyote dung, this is just my .02 ;)

that's raccoon the other 2 most like contestants are fox and bobcat but both of them usually bury there scat...raccoons often scat on top of pronounced objects.

I think, if I'm not mistaken but feline tend to bury(cover it with dirt, sand, leaves, what ever) their scat & usually don't just drop a load out in the open. Not stepping on any toes & please I don't want anyone upset:o this is just my .02 - I'm just an 'Ol HillBilly anyway ;) Could also be racoon dung by the small size

Given it's size and the presence of hair at the tail end, I'm going to say Fox rather than coyote. Bobcat scat is generally blunted at the ends. However, fox is usually pointed at both ends.

Could also be mountain lion. They will leave their "leavings" in the middle of a road and on trails like a coyote, but there is usually more than that. It is pretty fresh whatever it is.

I think diameter is more helpful in ID than amount or length generally.

Can you name this scat, man?

It kind of looks like a roasted marshmallow that someone left over the fire for too long then tried to pull off the stick...

You should have broke it open to see the fluffy white center :)
