Well guys, I was out on a dayhike, minding my own business, and as I jumped over a log I landed right next to a big pile of scat. I know what most of the animals in the areas excrement looks like but this one has me stumpted. This was on Ragged Island in Eastern Virginia.

I know it looks alot like human but it cant be. This was pretty fesh and at the time I found it I was the only one in this particular area. This was first thing in the morning and my truck was the only vehicle in the parking area. My assumption is that this has to be from an animal. But which one?

Well guys, what do you think??

I put the Izula in the picture for a size reference.

Looks like a large canine. Also have seen bear poop like that.

My first thought was canine (coyote or dog). However, it being that time of year, I wouldn't rule out young bear.

Anyone know what scat looks like from an animal that's still nursing?

I know what puppy scat looks like, I pick it up daily! It looks canine to me.

I'd guess someone with a hidden Meth lab and he dropped that out in panic when he heard you coming !!!!!

Failing that I'd go for canine, big cats taper at the ends !

Well, I guess the general concensus is that it is dog doodoo. I was thinking so hard of what kind of wilderness animal it might have come from, I didnt think about the possibility of something as common as a wild dog.

Im just glad that when I jumped over that log I didnt step in it with my new boots.:D

How messed up would that be if that really is human poop though and you posted a thread about it.

That could be, never thought of that! I would guess coyote.

I agree that it looks like a dog's. Coyote usually looks like it's twisted, so I wouldn't just say canine. The thing that makes me wonder is the color; as already suggested, maybe it is from something that's still nursing.

After thinkning about it a little bit, the land that I was hiking on is public hunting land. Deer is out of season but it is possible that there could be a lost beagle or two running around the area. It might be that color because it is eating whatever it finds and is not getting enough nutrients.
