- 3.5 to 4" fixed blade
- versatile, all-purpose outdoor knife
- tough and strong, can take (moderate/accidental) abuse
- has an edge that _stays sharp_ for a long time, and is easy to sharpen when the need arises
- comfortable grip
- cost less than $100

Suggestions most welcome!

The knife that came to mind that matches your description very closely is the SOG BG-42 Field knife.

F1 or Howling Rat are great.

Also try Ragnar at Ragweed Forge, they have the Helle knives and Karasuando. The Raven is very nice.
Kellam Wolfin is another great knife.
The Scandi's are not as bombproof as the F1 or HR, but they are plenty tough and look much nicer.

Regards

In your dreams, buddy. Get in line with the rest of us. Seriously, the ones I am going to be getting that fall similarly within those criteria...

- Becker BK 7

- Spyderco Fred Perrin

- Swamp Rat Bandicoot

Believe me when I say that I done a lot of research into this before making my purchases. Others which are important to consider are Cold Steel and Ontario. All the recommendations made here are excellent, too. Good luck.

I would have to say Swamp Rat Knife Works Bandicoot or Howling Rat!
They just can't be beat and they are very well priced too. You can get a NEW one for your $100 and that wil include shipping! They also come with one of the best warantees in the business.
