It is early Spring, and you are at a social gathering on the veranda of a Victorian mansion situated on 200 acres just outside of Charleston, SC. A cool spring breeze is bringing the smell of ribs from the grill.

The estate's owner, a young widow who recently inherited a shipping fortune of almost $800M, is clearly captivated by your charm and good humor. She approaches, accompanied by her twin sister. After a shy giggle, the widow asks if you might slice a lime for her Gin and Tonic.

You:

a) remove your BK7 from an inside-the-waistband sheath, causing the widow to retract in fear and drop her Gin and Tonic; her security personnel wrestle you to the ground and remove you from the estate; or,

b) you casually remove a small, finely crafted folder hand-made of exquisite and costly materials. You expertly slice the lime with its razor edge, and place a slice in the widow's drink. Your hand casually touches hers, precipitating her to blush. After an embarrassed pause, she asks if you might accompany her and and her sister on a private walking tour of the riding stables. You accept, and begin your stroll as the sun begins to set behind the adjacent hills.

If your answer is b), you were carrying a gent's knife.

right on

Gent's Knife = Class
Or, the opposite of a black combat 'tactical' knife.

Some possible gentleman's knife characteristics: Natural materials and/or exotic materials, quality craftsmanship, inobtrusive in design and size, suitable for carry in a gentleman's suit pocket, the styles of knives carried by American businessmen for hundreds of years, and suitable for everyday tasks that a gentleman might encounter.

I have no experience with being a gentleman personally, but there are many knives in my collection that would qualify as Gentlemans' Knives. This one from Bruckmann:

These Gerber Silver Knights are good examples of 'modern' Gents Knives. Classy, but not old-looking.

It WAS a Ritter RSK Mk4, until the Paul Axial lock developed play after only a week.
Now I'm back to my Benchmade 921, although the blade's a little long for a Gents knife.

My personal opinion is any knife you like to wear with a suit or when you're in a formal type of setting. And if that happens to be a SAK or a Fallkniven A2, well then, to each his own.
