Naming 100 Combat knives ??

This came up in a thread about the CRK Green Beret Knife. TK magazine said it was tested against 100 other combat knives. I won't try to say if that ever occurred or not, my question is this:

Are there even 100 currently in production combat knives available? If so what are they?

I can't come up with more than 25 or so.

Well, different models might have been counted as different knives! KA-BAR could account for about a quarter of that! ROFL!

Since I was the one who referred to that article in TK, let me post the quote here for those who don't have access to the magazine:

Special Forces Combat Knife by Chuck Karwan
Tactical Knives, March 2003, page 61

"100 Knives Tested
Approximately 100 different knives from a wide range of sources were submitted for evaluation, and the Harsey/Reeve knife collaboration was chosen by the Special Forces Headquarters as the one that best fulfilled their requirements. To say that this was a coup for these deserving and talented leaders in the knife field is a gross understatement"

In answer to the question, I can think of 100 if we count every Mad Dog, every Strider, every Busse etc. separately...I really would like to see the list though because I can't imagine that these (and other) makers would submit one of each of their knives...then again, there are hundreds of makers out there...but you would think that we would have heard about their "entries" by now...

Theres something over 100. Not counting any customs, or any (thus-far unknown to us civillians) prototypes from any of these companies or others.

:D

Before, there could be 100 knives, there would have to be a tender with the rules, requirements, and evaluation criteria for this project. A copy, or notice, should have been sent to every manufacturer on these boards. Do Busse, Strider, Buck, Camillus, Ontario, Kabar, SOG, Coldsteel, etc. know anything about these test?

If they knew then they have been very quite.

Hey Guys..

Personally,, and this has no reflection on CRK,, but I think someone is trying to Blow Sunshine up our A$$....

I exaggerate nearly the same after a fishing or hunting trip..:)

ttyle

Eric...

I just wanted to thank satin for the list of knives. But I think you missed one:D

Oh yah, most welcome.

I think the "tested against 100 knives" thing is a bit much, yes indeed... but, I just felt like posting a list to play devils advocate a little.
And i purposefully left out the CRK Yarborough, because it was the one that was supposed to have bested 100 others.

Looks like a real fine knife, and I'm sure it did go through a lot to get where it is now, but, exaggeration seems to abound with that line, yes yes. :)

Fishy. Since I have a wee bit of experience with military and government equipment procurement and testing I am prepared to suggest that eight or ten models of knives were submitted, with ten or so samples of each model, for a total of around 100 knives (but not 100 different knives). Some of the samples would be destroyed in the testing. This makes more sense and is, based on my (limited) experience, how military and government equipment evaluation works. (I like CR knives, so I won't mention that sometimes the "winner" of the evaluation is not the one selected once the chain-of-command has it's way with the results).

Thanks for the replies, I was really looking for that list of 100. I guess I had been thinking that if you test one Ontario Spec model, you wouldn't need to test any of the other Ontario models.

And BTW, I wasn't trying to pick on CRK, I was just trying to figure out what the other "100" would be.

I will buy the 10 of 10 models idea.

Thanks

I believe Rob Simonich stated he was never contacted.
