Narrow minded vs. Narrow focus

As a collector since 1980 and having purchased and sold hundreds of knives with a collection of a couple hundred currently and one who has been to many knife shows in the US and Canada, belong to forums and a member of CKCA and Honorary member of both Canadian Knifemakers Guild and the Knifemakers Guild, photographer of knives and one who has shared his passion for knives and knowledge about knives and photography, maybe one would think of my collecting as being successful. I'm certainly happy that Roger and Kevin do. I'm not sure I think of it in the same way. I have sold many knives with an ROI and a few at a loss -- a monetary loss only however as the joy of owning and handling and viewing all my knives is priceless and any financial loss can only be considered as rent. Knives are the effort of an artist who works in steel. Phyllis and I love to collect whether it be, paintings, sculpture, glass, plates, lithos, etc. The sheer joy of waking each day and wandering around home to view all of these items including the sculptures of steel which here we call knives can't be calculated or replaced by more $ in a bank account. Hopefully all collectors of whatever style of knife collected or by the numbers and themes or lack thereof will experience this same joy and not worry about being successful for the joy is success enough.

Thank you, Murray. That was great:thumbup:

:thumbup::thumbup: VERY well said Murray.

I can identify with the joy of waking up each day and having the ability to enjoy the many things i've "collected" over the years. Whether it be admiring it, holding it, shooting it or going for a ride in or on it...I find them to be one of the pleasures of enjoying life.

Peter
