Gives me one of Yvsa's "Full Body Shivers" just thinking of what that nDn would do with the edge.

They look like ovesized straight razors waiting for someone capable to do the job on them.

No mohel is coming near me with one of those things. :D :D :D

Danny, what's the kanji on the handles say? "Made in Japan"?

its so, so hard not to comment on that.

i saw one of those getting used in samurai fiction... they look just amazing for shaving wood.....

Me Likey!!!! All of dem.;)
I could see a whole 'nother collection starting up here.:D

Danny please, what's the prices on them shipped to the States?

Most of them are 20 to 30 Dollars and shipping was 24$
so 44$ to 55$, depending on how big you want.

Or save Danny from running around and buy them in the States:

Tosagata Hocho Cutlery These finely crafted kitchen knives come from Tosa on Shikoku Island. This Region is much more rural and forested than other parts of Japan, and the blacksmiths still adhere to the old ways. The master blade-maker sandwiches a layer of Aogami Hagane (blue steel) between two pieces of soft wrought iron, and by hand very slowly hammers the blade into shape. Each blade is then individually tempered to Rockwell c63º. Blue steel gives these blades a tough, long-lasting edge unmatched by any Western made knife. The forging marks are left intact on the surface of the blade. The handles are made from Ho (A relative of the Magnolia) known for its longevity when exposed to water.

This 4" blade might make a nice karda:

They also have more finished & forge-welded pattern blades.

Many other suppliers in US.

The Nata that I described that was sent to me appears to be the second one in from the left. :)

the ones on that website are kitchen knives.
The ones i am talking about are for chopping off tree limbs and such.

these guys have all kinds of garden tools , woodworking tools and kitchen knives. The more expensive ones are made by sword smiths. I have been buying kitchen knives from them for years and they are fine tools. Lots of good looking steel here.....

Good lookin stuff, DIJ.
Good prices too...

i was just thinking how the japanese have kicked themselves out of businesses that they themselves started.Everybody wants a japanese katana, but thhe japanese swordsmith has to charge so much for his work that noone can afford it.
so, the chinese are making them at a fraction of the price and every year their quality improves more and more.
japanese armor, too.

if they were smart, theyd set up sword villages like they used to have. produce japanese swords for export and run tourtists through there.

they may have one or two now, but they need another twenty.

oh, by the way, i can get those gigantic wooden hammers at the hardware stor if anybody wants one.
they are heavy so shipping may be alot, but theyre pretty cool.

I was thinking , the nata design is almost perfect for a beginning knife maker to "practice "HT with its got ,strait lines ,relatively easy to make ,removable handle and designed for heavy use

make 3 or 4 blades HT one test it , try some thing new on # 2 et...

some thing to think about
