A while back I got one of Nathan's radiused flat platen with a chiller and put it on the grinder but never had the need to use it until yesterday.

This bade it took me about 2.5 hours to grind yesterday. Most of that time was spent with two 60 grit Zirc belts. I had a heck of a time getting enough of a distil taper because I wanted this one super thin. I got bored grinding and decided to try the flat platen with a 220 grit j-flex.

Long story short, it only took me 5 minutes to accomplish what I couldn't do in an hour! Nathan, your platen is awesome! Not only did it show me the low spots, but I was able to put my desired distil taper in in no time. It was also the fastest way to get out all those 60 grit marks.

Specs:
8.5" blade of 3/32" 52100
2" tall and .10 at the heel.
Spine is .07 at half way point and .03 at the tip.
Edge is .008"
Handle is Stabilized Koa with corbys and mosaic.
It also has a white liner from the brittle stuff that texas knifemaker supply sells. (Thanks Stan Buzek for the tip about epoxying it before cutting. Worked like a charm!)

looking forward to hooking up the chiller and flat together. they are very well made and go to know that they work better than a standard platen. what type of platen did you have prior to the switch?

I had the ceramic.

I did just notice that grooves have been warn into the face of the platen. They're not deep but they are there. The only thing I can think of is that they came from using scotchbrite belts.

Cool man, it's very gratifying to get feedback like this. Thank you.
