Was wondering if anyone could post any pics comparing the Native 4 Carbon Fiber PE and the Sage Carbon Fiber PE...thanks!

Sure. These were taken just now. Been carrying the Native a bit, so the clip has been 86'd and it looks like I missed a bit of dust on it, but they should give you a fair idea...

...if the blades look kind of short in this one, it's because of the angle from which the picture was taken...

...and one of the Sage by itself...

Thanks for the pics!

Some questions if I may:

--Which do you prefer and why?
--Which knife is beefier? Going by the stats, I would say the Sage, but only by a little bit.

One thing I don't understand is if S30v is a better steel then VG-10 - why does the Native 4 command so much more $? Maybe cause its a back-lock and the Sage is a liner lock?

the sage is put together in Taiwan if i am not mistaken, the the native in Japan ( i am guessing on this because of the steel used)..so that is one reason for a higher price. as for s30v steel being better...ehh...not so much better but different...they are both great steels.

Overall, for personal use, I prefer the Native. I'm both left handed, so it has an advantage there. Furthermore, I'm highly prejudiced in favor of front locks, will always choose one of them over something with any other lock.

Regarding the CF, I'll take the stuff on the Stretch II over either of them.

I would rate build quality as extremely similar, with that of the Sage being slightly higher if anything. Never been totally happy with the crisp corner the Japanese makers leave on the inside edge of liners. Those on the Sage are just rounded enough not to feel sharp if you drag your finger along them. Sage CF looks a bit prettier, the texture acts like facets to reflect more light, nice for dress use, but would probably not go over big with covert operators.

Sage is defintely heavier and thicker, so in that sense it would be the beefier of the two. Blades are very close to the same thickness and length but the Sage handle is a bit longer. Then again, the Native has the added weight of the lockbar, spring and backspacer, while the Sage has a wide open back, so am not really sure where the weight comes from. Thickness is easier to account for, the Sage has thick washers while the Native has either ultra thin ones, or none plus its CF is about twice as thick. That last is probably the reason it weighs more.

As Tony said, country of origin is a major factor in the price difference. Imagine that the lock is also a factor, front locks are more complex, requiring both more parts and more fussy work than liner locks. Probably the reason few custom makers offer them.

Paul,
Your Sage looks quite strange. What happened with 043?

I've used both and I prefer the Sage over the Native 4.

Yeah it's made in Taiwan but man I was impressed with it as soon as I pulled it out of the box. The CF on the Sage has more texture and feels better in the hand where as the Native CF is smooth, almost like glass. I agree with Deacon in that the construction is very similar so it boils down to the lock style preference, blade finger ramp and CF feel. I've always been a fan of the wire clip too so all those factors combined lead me to EDC the Sage and sell the Native
