Native 5 lightweight just hasn't grown on me am I alone?

the native 3 is the best working knife I've had it is a shame they are discontinued none of the newer natives compare.

"and honestly scared to buy a lightweight s110v manix "...

I had one and sold it right away. The blade-steel is excellent but it was just TOO LIGHT for me.
I have found that I prefer folders that are between four and five ounces...it's a "comfort" thing...

I had one briefly but got rid of it for a few reasons although not having liners was not one. I was not a fan of the thickness, sharper squared corners, and ergonomics in comparison to a Delica. For me, I'd take a Delica every time over this knife so I didn't see any reason to keep it. Also was not a fan of the clip and ride height. But IMO it's a solid little knife.

I have a Native 5 LW but hardly ever carry it. Just never warmed up to it. I prefer 3.5"-4" blades.

I still keep it in my knife box for those rare times I go to a 3" blade restricted state.

I'm pretty sure its the size and backlock that is the issue, simply put its not easy to casually flick open, especially with the closed play and scale rubbing on one that plus the extremely loud click just makes me wish for a bigger knife. I ordered a s110v Manix 2. If I don't like it i'll sell it and keep both forum knives, if I do then ill sell one or both forum knives.

I have had the g10 version for a couple of years now. It is one of the best Edc knives I carry. I love it! A couple of weeks ago I got the native 5 lw and I have to say I love it too! I have zero problems with mine . It is perfection! So I can't stand with you on this one.

This is exactly what I dislike about my CF/S110V native 5 and if they're all like that I don't think I'll be buying a spyderedge LW like I was planning to. The lock is way too stuff for this small of a blade, can't flick or close easily.

Are you saying it is way too stiff and difficult to flick and close easily compared to OTHER (non backlock) Spydercos?

Competitively as a backlock, against the Buck 110, Triad lock CS models, Moki produced backlocks including Al Mars and even Spyderco models... The CF/G10 N5's should be equal to or easier to operate. It has a pivot bushing (innovated by C.Reeve) like the PM2 and should swing freely when the lock is disengaged. There are videos on youtube where the N5 is easily flicked and swung closed in various ways. The ability to easily operate it compared to conventional backlocks is actually why the bushing is there. Now if you compare its action to an axis lock or PM2 then yeah it would be inferior. Through my backround using backlocks for years... My experience has not been the same as yours.

I'm still getting used to the new lock mechanism. It feels great, is smooth and passes all my tests but it isn't what I grew up with so it takes time for me.

I have a process. :)

It cuts great though.

I still think the original Manix was the greatest ever made. Sort of heavy for pocket carry but it had a feel like no other. If I ever get stupid rich I'll have a blade and fitted for one of mine in CPM Cruwear or PD#1, maybe 3V.

That is actually my problem with the FRN native, while I haven't played with my "perfect" copy. I find unless the pivot is very loose the flexible nature of the FRN means it drags on the blade quite a bit preventing it from falling free. I find either its the hardest backlock I have to open and close when tightened or there is enough play when opening that, well again it rubs the scale hard enough to make it hard to open.

The Native 3 with its sculpted handle and wire clip was one of my favorites as well as my go to ranch work knife for several years. I disliked the Native FRN that followed and never really connected with the Native 5 as much as the Native 3 and other Spydies like the Caly 3.5, GB and PM2 so my Forum knife and EDCF GITD Native 5's mostly ride the shelf in my safe. I like the Native 5, just haven't bonded with it. I definitely don't think the lightweight would be any different.

Well. thought you guys might like to know, It started to grow on me a little ;) I just decided to deal with the scale rubbing in exchange for easily being able to open and close it. And realized a couple things, Its extremely easy to set and use with the wicked edge, and also It being almost completely rust proof it'll be a great knife to keep in my car. Plus s90v will never dull.

When they dropped the top swedge the Native lost its appeal to me. The Native is just not the Native with out it.
